New York City native Nandlall Mangal just won big. The Guyanese Indian-American has just come forward to claim the $245.5 million jackpot.

The construction worker is the sole winner of the August 11, 2018 Powerball jackpot. He had gone out of town after purchasing the ticket, which is why it took time for him to come forward with the it. Mangal told News India that he just bought the ticket while grocery shopping. He often purchases a lotto ticket when the winning jackpot reaches over $100 million.

Mangal revealed that after discovering that he was the winner, he called his lawyer first. He kept the news from his friends, family, and co-workers. Mangal continued to work at his construction job in Manhattan all of last month.

Mangal claimed his winnings in the form of a trust on behalf of The Sea and Sand trust, opting for a one-time lump sum payment of $99,321,975 after required withholdings.

Speaking about his big win, Mangal told News India Times that it was “shocking.”

“Right now I just plan to relax and see where it goes from there,” Mangal told News India Times. He plans to travel with his winnings, “I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii.”

Mangal is the 91st New York Lottery player to claim a prize worth $1,000,000 or more just this year! Looks like it’s been a lucky year for New Yorkers.
