Legendary Australian Cricketer Shane Warne Dies at 52

Legendary Australian former spinner Shane Warne has died of a suspected heart attack on 4th March according to a Fox Sports report. He was 52.

Warne’s management released a statement stating, “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa [in Thailand] and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

Shane Warne is the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of test cricket who picked up 708 wickets in 145 Tests for Australia in a celebrated career spanning 15 years from 1992 to 2007. He also took 293 wickets in one-day international matches.

Shane Warne reportedly died of a heart attack aged 52

Warne is the second bowler in the world after Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan who took more than 1000 international wickets (One day International and test).

In 2007, Warne retired from international cricket after Australia’s 5–0 Ashes series victory over England. He was inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame and the Cricket Hall of Fame by Cricket Australia in 2013 and 2012 respectively for his outstanding performance.

Warne played 194 ODI matches for Australia and scored 1,018 runs in ODI matches and 3,154 runs in test matches in his professional career.

Just a few hours before his death, Shane tweeted from his official Twitter handle to offer his condolence to former Australian cricketer Rodney Marsh.

Shane tweeted, “Sad to hear the news that Rod Marsh has passed. He was a legend of our great game & an inspiration to so many young boys & girls. Rod cared deeply about cricket & gave so much-especially to Australia & England players. Sending lots & lots of love to Ros & the family. RIP mate”.

Tributes pour in via Social Media

Tributes started pouring in from his friends, well-wishers, and fans on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag who could not believe the unfortunate news tweeted, “Cannot believe it. One of the greatest spinners, the man who made spin cool, superstar Shane Warne is no more. Life is very fragile, but this is very difficult to fathom. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fans all around the world.”

God of Indian Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to remember Shane tweeting, “Shocked, stunned & miserable… Will miss you Warnie. There was never a dull moment with you around, on or off the field. Will always treasure our on field duels & off field banter. You always had a special place for India & Indians had a special place for you. Gone too young! ”

As we write this article, cricket fans from all over the world have expressed their shock on hearing the untimely demise of Shane Warne and tributes are being paid to the legendary cricketer the world has ever witnessed.

The sudden death of Shane is a big setback to the cricket fraternity.
