Jeremy Renner sparked concerns at the beginning of the year when it was reported that the actor was run over by a snowplow vehicle. The Avengers star then underwent two surgeries and spent a few days in the ICU.
Some new details of the accident have now been revealed, which state that Renner was trying to save his adult nephew from being crushed by the snowplow plow, which led to him being run over. Read on to know more about the development.
Jeremy Renner was Crushed by Snowplow While Trying to Save Nephew
As per the incident report filed by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Renner was trying to stop the snowplow from sliding and hitting his nephew when he was crushed under the vehicle on January 1. The 52 year old actor was using the machine to move his nephew’s truck from the driveway after massive snowfall.
“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” says the report, adding, “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward.”
“When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over,” the report reads further. The nephew then called 911 and took care of Renner till the emergency services arrived. The actor was then airlifted to the hospital.
The report further suggests that the brake light indicator of the snowplow was not working, and thus “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident.” Meanwhile, impairment is not believed to be a reason behind the accident.
The Actor Underwent Two Surgeries Following the Accident
The day after the accident, Renner underwent emergency surgery in the hospital. He was said to have suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, along with damage to over 30 bones. He then spent the next few days in the hospital and had to undergo another surgery.
At the time, the star had shared a photograph from his hospital bed on Instagram and thanked his fans for their prayers, writing, “Thank you all for your kind words. 🙏. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.” He was discharged after two weeks and now continues to recover at home.
Last weekend, Renner shared another update on social media, which showed him undergoing a physical therapy session. “Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years …. Spawned from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused into uniting actionable love,” he wrote in the caption.
“I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I …. Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens. Love and blessings to you all 🙏❤️🙏,” he continued.
