Ezra Blount, a 9-Year-Old Boy Dies Following Injuries at Astroworld Festival

Ezra Blount, a 9-year-old young boy who was in critical condition at Texas Children’s Hospital has passed away on Sunday, 14-Nov.

The lawyers representing his family said last week in Houston that he was injured in the crowd surge during Travis Scott’s show at Astroworld Festival and was suffering from brain trauma.

Ezra was put into a medically induced coma and fighting for his life for a week as confirmed by the family’s attorney on Sunday night. According to his grandmother, Tericia Blount, he suffered major injuries on that night because of a crowd surge and was kept on a ventilator as he suffered brain, kidney, and liver trauma.

As narrated by some witnesses, there was a sudden “crush” of music fans at the Nov. 5 event. Ezra was sitting on his father’s shoulders when the crowd began to crush together and he fell.

His parents filed a lawsuit alleging that the show organizers have failed miserably to control the crowd in the two-day concert by hip-hop star Travis Scott.

They have sought the services of Benjamin Crump, a high-profile lawyer to represent them along with three other lawyers, Alex Hilliard, Bob Hilliard, and Paul Grinke.

Crump’s office issued a statement saying, “Ezra sustained life-threatening injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma on life support in an attempt to combat his brain, liver, and kidney trauma. This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, what should have been a joyful celebration.

Ezra’s death is absolutely heartbreaking. We are committed to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight we stand in solidarity with the family, in grief, and in prayer.”

There were nine more concertgoers who died because of the crowd surge who were aged between 14 to 27. Last week on Wednesday night, Bharti Shahani, 22 years old college student died from her injuries. She went along with her sister and a cousin to attend the show as stated by her family members.

In a statement released on Friday, Astroworld promoter Live Nation said, “We continue to support and assist local authorities in their ongoing investigation so that both the fans who attended and their families can get the answers they want and deserve, and we will address all legal matters at the appropriate time.”

Attorney Ben Crump, added, “The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son. This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, what should have been a joyful celebration.

Ezra’s death is absolutely heartbreaking. We are committed to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight we stand in solidarity with the family, in grief, and in prayer.”
