Britney Spears’ 14-Year Long Conservatorship Terminated

Yesterday, 12-Nov was a big relief day for Britney Spears as a Los Angeles judge has approved the termination of Britney Spears’s conservatorship.

This implies that the singer and songwriter is now freed from the controversial legal arrangement that has controlled her life for more than 13 years.

It is indeed an extraordinary victory for the Pop diva and the best weekend she will remember for a lifetime as She had fought this legal case vigorously for years to regain her independence.

The conservatorship has restricted her rights to make basic decisions related to her finances, career, and personal life since 2008.

Britney Spears has a big relief as her conservatorship is terminated after almost 14 years

The pop star will not have to appoint a team of professionals and attorneys to oversee her affairs post this verdict. The court decided to dissolve the conservatorship, a form of court-appointed guardianship in its Friday ruling which implies Spears will retake control of her estate.

Brenda Penny, the Los Angeles judge, said, “The conservatorship of the person and of the estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated. John Zabel, an accountant involved on the financial side of the conservatorship, would temporarily continue in a limited role handling a few administrative issues, including transferring assets and estate planning.”

A huge gathering of her fans outside the court premises was rejoicing with chants of “Britney is free!” post the ruling. Many supporters were seen singing the pop star’s song Stronger in unison.

Vanessa Rundlett, 35, who came all the way from Rhode Island to witness the hearing had tears of joy on her face. She said, “Her music has got me through some of the hardest times of my life. She is a pillar of strength. She has been soldiering on through all of this and has not lost her faith.”

After the ruling, Spears tweeted from her Twitter handle with hashtag #FreedBritney, “Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy !!! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen ????”. She also shared a video of the celebration outside the courthouse on social media.

Her attorney, Mathew Rosengart in a news conference outside the courthouse, said, “As of today, effective immediately, the conservatorship has been terminated as to both the person and the estate. This is a monumental day for Britney Spears.” In terms of Spears’ future, Rosengart said: “What’s next for Britney, and this is the first time this could be said for about a decade, is up to one person, Britney.”

Spears, 39, for the first time, spoke publicly about the arrangement almost five months back in the court saying she was forced to take medications and perform in the shows even though she did not want to.

Jamie Spears, her father, had been an abusive conservator. He used to strongly control intimate details of her life. In the month of September, a judge has suspended her father from the conservatorship.
