I’m going out on a limb here to make some assumptions but if you’re a woman and desi, chances are your Halloween memories include the following scene: your mom dressing you up in a lehenga, throwing costume jewelry on you, topping you off with tiara from the 99 Cents store, and ordaining you an “Indian Princess.”

Chances are, that was not your choice of costume.

You know what who I wanted to dress up as? I wanted to be a Disney princess and the only character that I could semi pull off is Princess Jasmine. As a brown girl in the 90s, we didn’t have many beautiful, strong desi women in the mainstream media who we can look up to or emulate. It’s no surprise that when it comes to Halloween makeup, these South Asian beauty bloggers choose Jasmine as their inspiration!

Check out these fabulous bloggers as they teach you the best way to let your inner princess shine!

1. Irene Sarah Mahmud Khan

Learn how to get the perfect Jasmine hair with this tutorial from Khan. She makes it very easy to get the fluffed up bangs that Jasmine has and all you need to do is add the ponytail.

2. Sharifa Easmin

Easmin’s tutorial has a stunning makeup look that you can use for any day, not just Halloween. She even shows us a simple tutorial on how to get your hair like Jasmine’s without teasing your hair or adding extensions to make it look thicker.

3. Farah Dukhai

The lovely Dukhai’s Jasmine-inspired look is just stunning! This is a look that you can do for any special occasion, not just Halloween.

With the high ponytail, Dukhai looks just like Jasmine did in the movie! Remember when possessed Jasmine in red had the high ponytail?

Can you say #Sexy?

4. Arshia Moorjani

For those who don’t know her, Moorjani is a YouTuber and blogger. Her Princess Jasmine look is perfect! She’s a sparkly doll in shades of blue. She even has a quick hair tutorial included so you can create the perfect Princess Jasmine look.

Though Princess Jasmine is all that and a box of chocolates, thankfully, the little girls today have a few more powerful desi girls in the mainstream to look up to.

We have amazing women like Priyanka Chopra, Mindy Kaling, Hannah Simone, Noreen DeWulf, Padma Lakshmi, Janina Gavankar and even the former Miss. America, Nina Davuluri. Let’s not forget Karen David who plays Princess Jasmine on “Once Upon a Time!”

However, there’s still no shame in bringing those childhood dreams to life, rock your inner Princess Jasmine, girl. Rock it!
