Kanye West wants his children to attend school at Donda Academy. The rapper’s latest posts on Instagram are focused on him trying to convince his ex-wife Kim Kardashian to send his children to Donda Academy and not to the private school that she had selected.
“This is co-parenting,” says the 45-year-old rapper as he shared a screenshot of his conversation with his ex-wife. The school is named after Ye’s late mother. But is Donda Academy an actual educational institution? Read on to find out.
What is Donda Academy?
Donda Academy is an actual educational institution established by Kanye himself in Ventura County, California. The institute has its own official website and first made headlines in October last year.
The school claims to provide world-class education to students, with a mission to teach the children of tomorrow. The school mission on the website reads, “Using an ethic of integrity and care, Donda Academy prepares students to become the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators.”
The educational venture is a tuition-based private institution, which states that it has a “rigorous core curriculum and an emphasis on sustainability, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving.”
Who can Get Admitted to Donda Academy?
The website says that the school welcomes children regardless of their financial status. “Everyone is welcome to apply regardless of financial situation. Financial aid and scholarships are available for students who qualify,” reads the statement on the website.
Classes are available for students from pre-K through 12th grade, with no more than 12 students being taught in one classroom. The school claims to maintain a student-to-teacher ratio of 10:1. “Each day, Donda students learn fundamentals, grow in their faith, and experience two enrichment classes,” states the website.
The daily schedule of students at the school will include full school worship; language arts, math, and science core classes; recess and lunch break; and enrichment courses such as visual arts, film, choir, and parkour.
For the next academic term, the school is accepting applications from prospective students till June 10, 2023. The website also says that the number of seats are limited and some applicants might be put on the waitlist.
Gospel Chor is one of the Highlights of the Academy
The school is also putting together a gospel choir apart from the regular academic classes. The website features an admission form, particularly to accept students for the choir. “We are looking for kids who love to sing and lift up the name of Jesus to audition for the DONDA Academy Gospel Choir,” the form states.
Ye had started his own Sunday Services during the pandemic, which became quite famous lately. It is not yet known whether the students being accepted for the gospel choir will get to be a part of Ye’s Sunday Services.
Currently, the school is auditioning children ranging from grades 2nd to 12th for the 2022-2023 school year. The students will be undergoing weekly rehearsals during the academic session.
