Tew said, “I do not know who gave it to me or where I got it, all I know is that because I was so sick to the point of death, they said I had to have had it for eight to ten years. At that time frame, I was in New York City and I was homeless.”

In the past, the social media star had also said that she had been assaulted while living in New York. She went on to say, that she had gotten free tattoos, so it “could have been from a dirty needle.”

Gena continued, “Did I know those people? No. Did I say anything when those things happen? No, because I was naive and I was stupid and I was young.”

Due to her AIDS diagnosis, Gena has stated that she has had some mobility issues. In May, she told her fans about her wheelchair and she stated that she couldn’t walk.

In June, Tew posted a video of herself from the hospital. The video was from the first days of the Instagram influencer knowing she had AIDS. At that time, she said she was so weak that she couldn’t even speak properly.
