Jussie Smollett Claims Innocence in his New R&B Track After Release from Jail

American singer and songwriter, Jussie Smollett was imprisoned for 150 days in March 2022. The former Empire star was convicted of staging a fake hate crime against himself. However, he was released after serving six days at the Cook County jail on a $150,000 bail.

Jussie has released a new R&b Track months after his release. The new gospel-influenced song is called “Thank You God” and Jussie has poured his heart into it. Read on to know more about this song that tells the story of his legal battle as he claims his innocence.

Looks like they’re hell-bent…

Jussie’s fans believe that he has become a target of the racial justice system. The 39-year old black gay singer took to Instagram to share a lyrical video of his new song “Thank You God” wherein he disdained the press and law enforcement for falsely accusing him of the 2019 incident.

Smollett captioned his video as “LINK IN BIO… 100% of the profits will be donated to @rpcoalition@illinoisinnocenceproject & @stbsafety. With Love…-Jussie.” The song starts with an introductory line that says “Channeling these thoughts, the best way I know how. Love You…Jussie.”

The song starts with touching lines that say, “It’s like they’re hell-bent on not solving the crime / Taking out the elements of race and trans and homophobia that’s straight taking lives / But turn around and act like I’m the one that killed the strides.”

The song creates moe impact as Jussie sings, “I can’t be mad / Take my ego out / Some people searching for fame / Some people chasing that clout / Just remember this, this ain’t that situation / You think I’m stupid enough to kill my reputation?”

Jussie touches the heart of his audience as he sings, “Just simply to look like a victim like it’s something fun / Y’all better look at someone else, you got the wrong one.” Jussie has narrated the worst experience of his life through this song. His song has received mixed reactions from fans.

Where will the profits go?

Jussie Smollett would be giving away all profits from this song to NGOs like Secure the Bag Safety, Rainbow Push Coalition and the Illinois Innocence Project. Allow me to introduce you to these organizations if you don’t know what they are about.

  • The Illinois Innocence Project works to exonerate wrongfully convicted people and acts towards reforming the criminal justice system.
  • Rainbow Push Coalition is dedicated to achieving social justice, civil rights and political activism.
  • Secure the Bag Safety program was created to help protect the lives of T/GNC/Non-Binary people, prioritizing Black, Indigenous, (and) People of Color (BIPOC) first as a direct response to violence and attacks happening in the United States.

Well, the profits are going to the correct places. This money will help bring a change in the lives of those who are deprived of their basic rights and struggle every day to find justice whilst growing racial crimes. Isn’t it?

Sadly, Jussie’s song had less than 5,000 listeners on Spotify today. However, Smollett’s Instagram fans commented positively on this new R&B track. One fan wrote, “We Rise above on our darkest days. No one is perfect. Thank You for donating to our 🏳️‍🌈 ppl. You gonna rise above better than ever so stay positive. God bless you”.

Another fan wrote, “Love you Jussie!! Beautiful song. Stay strong 💪🏽 We got you!!” Jussie Smollett’s case is on appeal but his attorney Nenye Uche is sure that they will sail through all hurdles. What do you think about this new song? Do you think he is innocent?
