This week, the US Supreme Court took a big decision regarding the abortion laws in the country. It overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling which has been in place for almost 50 years. Many celebs including Harry Styles and Taylor Swift took to social media to express their thoughts on the same.
Harry shared his thoughts on Supreme Court’s decision
On Friday, the As It Was singer took to his Instagram to put out his thoughts on the Supreme Court’s decision of overturning Roe v. Wade.
Harry shared his opinion on the social networking service Instagram. He wrote, “I’m absolutely devastated for the people of America today. Check on your friends. Look after each other,” in his Instagram Story.
The 28-year-old further added, “We’re all in this together, and the fight is just beginning. A truly dark day for America.”
Harry shared Michelle Obama’s post on his Instagram Story
Harry also reposted the post of the Former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama on the matter on his Instagram Story. She explained how heartbroken she was after the decision came out.
Michelle wrote, “I am heartbroken for people around this country who just lost the fundamental right to make informed decisions about their own bodies. I am heartbroken that we may now be destined to learn the painful lessons of the time before Roe was made law of the land — a time when women risked losing their lives getting illegal abortions.”
Obama further added, “A time when the government denied women control over their reproductive functions, forced them to move forward with pregnancies they didn’t want, and then abandoned them once their babies were born. This is what our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers lived through, and now here we are again.”
She continued, “I know this is not the future you chose for your generation — but if you give up now, you will inherit a country that does not resemble you or any of the values you believe in.”
Harry used his platform to advocate for reproductive rights in May
While making an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in May this year, Harry shared his thoughts on the potential overturn of Roe v. Wade. At the time, he said, “I just don’t think anyone should be able to make decisions about anyone else’s body.”
The Sign of the Times singer further added, “It doesn’t really make any sense to me. What’s happening here in the country at the moment, I don’t really know where that ends. At that point, is it someone needs an operation and someone can decide that they can’t have it?”
Styles went on to talk about the possible reversal and continued, “It’s quite scary to see just how far backwards we’re going in a lot of ways. There should be backlash and uproar for these things.”
