Blac Chyna Loses $140 Million Lawsuit Against the Kardashian-Jenners, No Damages Awarded

In my previous article about Corey Gamble’s testimony, I had suggested that the Kardashian may win this legal battle amid explosive testimonies against Blac Chyna. Now, the “Keeping Up with Kardashians” stars have done it.

While the Kardashians were flaunting their gorgeous looks at the 2022 Met Gala, the Los Angeles court gave a favorable verdict, dismissing  Chyna’s $100 million defamation suit against the Kardashians-Jenners (sans Kourtney and Kendall) after a two-week dramatic trial.

The Jury Sides the Kardashians

Angela Renée White, professionally known as Blac Chyna, has lost her legal battle against the Kardashians amid explosive testimonies which revealed that the Rob & Chyna star was physically abusive towards her ex-fiance Rob Kardashian.

While the Kardashians were chilling at the 2022 Met Gala in Manhattan, a lot of drama took place outside the courtroom. Black Chyna’s mom, Tokyo Toni appeared to threaten the judge who tossed her out of the courtroom for thrashing Krish Jenner and her children.

The jury sided with the Kardashians after listening to a series of testimonies from Kris, Khloe, Kim, Kylie and Rob. A strong testimony came a few days back from Corey Gamble who is the boyfriend of Kris Jenner.

Corey testified before the LA court that he heard Blac Chyna threaten to kill Roby Kardashian multiple times, and said that he had to physically intervene to stop her in December 2016.

About the Victorious Verdict

Blac Chyna claimed in her $140 million defamation lawsuit filed in 2017 that her former fiancée Rob and the Kardashian family damaged her brand. She also alleged that Rob leaked her nude photos online before the said cancellation. The trial began with jury selection on April 18, 2018.

After a two-week dramatic trial between the Kardashians and Blac Chyna, the jury ultimately decided no damages to Black Chyna but did find Kris, Kim and Kylie acted to protect their economic interest.

The jury also found out that Kris, Kim, Kylie and Khloe were aware that Chyna had a contract with the E! network but did not find that their conduct prevented Chyna from persuing her contract.

The jury consisted of 7 women and 5 men. When asked about how they voted on each question on the special verdict form, an anxious Chyna walked out of her courtroom texting on her phone.

As it is a civil case, 9 out of the 12 jurors were supposed to agree that Chyna proved her two claims of defamation and interference of her contract. But nothing like that happened as the judge played a vital role in urging the jury to consider significant evidence in this case.

The Judge Sided the Kardashians

Judge Gregory W. Alarcon who was hearing this case, ruled last week that Kim Kardashian should not be held liable for the defamation claim. He even instructed the jury to consider various emails and text messages Khloe, Kris and Kylie had sent to producers and network executives between 2015 and 2017 whereby they expressed their concerns about the filming of the alleged show.

The Kardashian-Jenners also requested the judge to dismiss Chyna’s lawsuit after one and half weeks of trial because she offered “no additional testimony or evidence to support her claim”. This was taken into consideration.

Michael Rhodes, who represented the Kardashians painted Blac Chyna as an opportunist who wanted to become a part of the famous family. In his opening statement, Kardashians’ lawyer said that “She wanted to be one of them.”

The judge instructed the jurors that Blac Chyna might have deliberately hid her finances because she failed to provide any financial statements, tax returns and other documents about her income or expenses. FYI, she was given almost six years to file those documents.

Michael even alleged that Chyna willingly accepted $100,000 to allow the termination of the second season after filming had begun. The jury considered all such circumstantial and factual evidence to conclude and found the Kardashian not guilty of Chyna’s claim.

More about the Trial…

The two-week trial brought forward a range of emotions from those who testified, including Rob who narrated a series of abusive incidents he had to undergo at the hands of Chyna. He testified that Chyna landed several blows on his face and back. Rob also claimed that she used a metal pole to hit him during the altercation that started on December 14, 2016.

Rob stated, “She ripped my shirt early in the evening and we were throwing money around in our Snapchat. In the beginning, I thought it was playful. I didn’t think it got serious until the second gun encounter …”

He added, “you don’t point a gun on your fiancé’s head whether you think it’s loaded or not.”He even stated that she tried to strangle him with an iPhone cord. The Kardashian matriarch also alleged in her testimony that Chyna tried to kill Kylie Jenner.

A major testimony came from the Network and production executives who testified that  “Rob & Chyna” was not officially “green lit” for a second season because “the former couple’s relationship took a  tumultuous turn and no longer fit the network’s vision, which tended to focus on more “aspirational” and “escapist” shows like “KUWTK.”

Chyna was seeking a combined total of nearly $140 million ($110 million in economic damages and $36 million in general damages for emotional distress). The case seems to stem from Chyna’s urge to seek stardom and exploit the Kardashians.

Well, that is not my personal opinion but what the courtroom thinks. The Kardashians have another reason to celebrate as they get rid of the hefty damages that Blac sued them for. What do you think about the judgement? Was Chyna tried fairly? Well, I think so!
