A mandatory examination has been introduced by the state of California that needs to be cleared by the first-year law students attending unaccredited schools in order to continue their studies. Even though the name of the exam is “baby bar” it is not that easy.
There are four essays and 100 multiple-choice questions related to Contracts, Criminal Law, and Torts in the exam that needs to be finished in seven hours in a single day. Students need to ensure they score a minimum of 560 on a scale of 800 to pass the examination. In other words, you need to achieve an accuracy rate of 70%.
As of now, in the United States, only California has this system of Baby Bar exams.
It is an alternate path offered without attending law school by “reading the law,” or apprenticing with a practicing lawyer or a judge.
