God of War Ragnarok is one of the most anticipated titles for PlayStation players. The sequel to the phenomenal God of War (2018) is slated to launch later this year. Find out about the God of War Ragnarok release date here along with key pieces of information.

God of War Ragnarök will serve as the final chapter in the series’ Norse storyline with the return of Kratos and Atreus in the Old Norse Worlds. The story will be set a few years after the events of the prequel.

The next upcoming God of War game will also utilize the power of the latest PlayStation 5, and the graphics are already looking stunning. All of this is making players eager to try out the game soon. However, the makers haven’t shared an official update this year yet.

God of War Ragnarok Expected Released Date for 2022

Initially teased in 2020, God of War Ragnarok was expected to launch in 2021 first. However, at the Sony PlayStation Showcase on September 9, 2021, Sony’s developer Santa Monica and the publisher PlayStation Studios revealed that God of War Ragnarok has been delayed till 2022.

They didn’t share a release date for 2022. At this moment, there is no official or confirmed release date available for God of War Ragnarok. We only know that the game is definitely coming in 2022, but when, that is not confirmed yet.

Representatives from Sony have confirmed at multiple instances that the game isn’t delayed again, and will launch in 2022. Recently, Jason Schreier, Bloomberg journalist and reliable Sony insider confirmed via Reddit that the game is still on track and will release later this year.

On the official PlayStation website as well, God of War Ragnarok’s release date is mentioned as “2022.” Sony has also released a list of 22 games to look out for in 2022, and God of War Ragnarok was included in it.

If we take a look at the leaks, it is expected that the upcoming God of War game will release in Q3 2022. A PlayStation Database leak also hinted that God of War Ragnarok will release on September 30, 2022.

Why is God of War Ragnarok being delayed?

Sid Shuman, head of PlayStation Studios has explained that Santa Monica Studio is taking more time before releasing God of War Ragnarok in an attempt to “deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play.”

He also stated that “Developing a game that will follow in the footsteps of the stellar God of War will no doubt take a lot of time and polish. So we’re happier seeing the game delayed and perfected than rushed out.”

Before that, the game got delayed in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but it is currently on track now. There will be no more delays, hopefully. And, we will soon be able to witness the launch of the iconic sequel.

Will God of War Ragnarok be available on PS4 and PC?

It is known that God of War Ragnarok will likely be available on the PlayStation 4 as it will feature a cross-platform release launching on both PS4 and PS5. Herman Hulst, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studio, mentioned that the game which was earlier expected to be a PS5 exclusive will be arriving on PS4 as well.

However, there is still no update if God of War Ragnarok will be available for Microsoft Windows PC. Just like the prequel, we expect that the game will initially be exclusive to PS4 and PS5. Later, we can expect the release on PC.

God of War Ragnarok: Gameplay, Story, and Trailer

God of War Ragnarok will be the direct sequel to 2018’s God of War. The ending of the prequel sows the seeds for the Old Norse tale of Ragnarok. During the ending, the Norse god of Thunder, Thor comes to Kratos’ house potentially to seek revenge for Kratos killing his sons and his brother Baldur.

Thus, God of War Ragnarok will act as the final chapter in the Norse storyline set a few years after the events of the 2018 game. Kratos and Atreus will fight for survival as the action-packed events of Ragnarok will unfold revealing mysteries.

The official PlayStation website states that “Kratos and Atreus embark on a mythic journey for answers and allies before Ragnarök arrives.

From Santa Monica Studio comes the sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War (2018). Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as they prepare for the prophesied battle that will end the world.

Together, Kratos and Atreus venture deep into the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for war. Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, gather allies from across the realms, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters.

As the threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer, Kratos and Atreus find themselves choosing between the safety of their family and the safety of the realms…

The official trailer for God of War Ragnarok was finally launched at the PlayStation Showcase 2021. The trailer revealed the interplay between an older Atreus and his father Kratos. The familiar cast of characters along with Norse gods Thor and Tyr were seen making their return.
