Priyanka Chopra was one of the first well-wishers of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry when news broke of their engagement. Chopra and Markle have become close friends the past few years but she has stayed mum about Markle’s relationship, protecting the couple’s privacy. However, what everyone is asking now is if she’ll be part of the bridal party at the royal wedding.

Congratulations to my girl @meghanmarkle and Prince Harry!! I’m so happy for you Meg! You deserve the best always..keep smiling that infectious smile. Xoxo 🎉🥂❤️👰

Recently on the Wendy Williams Show, Chopra laughingly said that though they are good friends, she doesn’t think she’s close enough to Markle to be selected as a bridesmaid. However, there may be another reason the beauty queen, isn’t selected as a bridesmaid.

Apparently, it is unusual for a royal bride to have bridesmaids her own age. They are usually just young children or teens. According to Marlene Koenig, a British royalty expert, for the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton to have her own sister, Pippa, as a bridesmaid was considered strange. Koenig explains that the first person to bend the tradition of only having young children in the bridal party was Queen Elizabeth when she married Prince Philip in 1947. Queen Elizabeth’s youngest bridesmaid was her 10-year-old cousin Princess Alexandra.

Markle, a Canadian actress, and philanthropist has quite a lot of talented friends. Besides Chopra, her list of close friends includes tennis player Serena Williams, her co-star Sarah Rafferty, and Indian-American actress Janina Gavankar. Gavankar and Markle have actually been friends for 15 years.

Oh how I love seeing my long time friend @janina in #ATL ❤️ Couldn’t be prouder of how far we’ve come, and couldn’t be more grateful for being able to share every step of it with you #imean #actorlife #grateful #friends (wait! @Janina I just did the math – did we become friends 15 years ago?!? Whoa 💪🏽)

It’s highly likely that little Princess Charlotte and Prince George would be in the bridal party instead of Markle’s famous friends. Koenig says that it would be less unusual for her friends to read a lesson during the service. So, maybe we won’t see Chopra and these other stunning ladies as bridesmaids, but Chopra and Markle have such a loving relationship, we hope to see her at the royal wedding.

Chopra and Markle’s friendship began when they met at the annual ELLE Women in Television dinner a few years ago. The actresses hit it off instantly, probably because they have so much in common. Markle is the star of the hit television show “Suits” and the Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada and “Quantico” star Chopra has the same passion for philanthropy as a Global Ambassador for UNICEF.

Markle told PTI in an email interview how the two keep in touch via email or text and try to meet up when they can manage it with their busy schedules.

They are clearly protective of each other as evidenced by how Chopra criticised Markle’s Vanity Fair cover for mainly focusing on Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry. She explains that sometimes the work of females tend to be minimized and they become just the “plus one” of their more famous significant other.

“I don’t know if I will get into trouble for this, but I have an opinion,” Chopra told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, she’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend. I’m just saying. I mean, she’s an actor, she’s an activist, she’s a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more.”

About last night. Thank you to my babe @priyankachopra for the best date night #Hamilton #NYC

In an email interview with PTI, Markle even confessed she wants to work on a Bollywood film with Chopra.

“I would love to work with her on a film one day!” Markle said.  “I told her specifically that my dream is to work with her on a Bollywood film because I think it would be so much fun–she said I should do it!”

Aren’t these two #FriendshipGoals?
