Why Did Emily Ratajkowski Quit Acting?

American model and actress, Emily Ratajkowski opened up about giving up her acting career in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times. The 31-year-old walked her fans through some of the darkest sides of Hollywood, calling it “fucked up”.

Why Did Emily Ratajkowski Quit Acting?

In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Emily Ratajkowski revealed that she quit acting in 2019 because Hollywood is so “fucked up.” The 31-year-old supermodel, who started her career with a supporting role in David Fincher’s “Gone Girl”, went on to play lead roles in “I Feel Pretty” and “We Are Your Friends”.

However, Emily  hasn’t acted in any movie since 2019’s “Lying and Stealing.” She further narrated, “I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I’m an artist performing and this is my outlet. I felt like a piece of meat who people were judging, saying, ‘Does she have anything else other than her [breasts]?'”

At The Behest Of Powerful Men…

Emily, who started her career by acting opposite the legendary actor and director, Ben Affleck, revealed that while navigating her days in Hollywood, she would have to make herself “digestible to powerful men”. Due to this, she fired her acting agent, manager and commercial representative in early 2020.

Emily discussed how she is not able to trust such agents, who could have made bad decisions on her behalf. ” I didn’t trust them. I was like, I can handle receiving phone calls. I’m gonna make these decisions. None of you has my best interest at heart. And you all hate women.'”

If you’ve read her best-seller essay collection, “My Body”, Emily reflected on the treatment of women in Hollywood in one of the essays. She mentioned an incident wherein she went to a WME party with her ex-husband Sean Bear-McClard. She recalled that his “drunk agent” told her she was so famous that she was “like Pamela Anderson before the hep C.”

“I thought about the way that [Bear-McClard] had glided through the room, a room full of men who only two years before had been kissing Harvey Weinstein’s ring and encouraging their young female clients to take meetings with him in hotel rooms,” Ratajkowski wrote in that essay. “I hated that my husband was at all connected to these men,” she continued. FYI, he was accused of “sexual misconduct” by several other women.

In the interview with the Los Angeles Times, the “Easy” actress revealed: “Maybe that’s why right now I’m not really interested in men’s POVs,” Ratajkowski told the outlet. “Because they were lies. And I don’t mean infidelity. This is a f****d-up world. Like, Hollywood is f****d up. And it’s dark… I had a hard time even being at a party like that. But then having a part of me that was so connected to it was even harder.”

Ratajkowski identifies herself as a feminist. She has received both support and criticism for her views on sexual expression. The former actress’s essay collection, My Body, was published by Metropolitan Book in November 2021. She is presently involved in a nasty divorce and custody battle with her ex-husband, Bear-McClard.
