You felt what I felt?
When you heard that the show won’t renew for another season? It’s now time to talk about this incredible show because we want a second season.
After the first season ended, a number of things became came to light. A sequence of ups and downs led us to finally discuss one of our favorite shows. In case you’re wondering, we’re talking about ‘Watchmen.’
Damon Lindelof developed the HBO series and also worked as an executive producer and writer. When disguised vigilantes are treated like criminals by government officials, several join together to launch a rebellion.
Whereas others try to put a halt to it before it leads to mayhem. The series is set 34 years after the events of the comic series. Let’s talk about the show’s renewal status and other recent developments.
Watchmen Season 2 Might Not Happen
If you didn’t notice it at first, Watchmen is labeled as a ‘limited series.’ And you’ve all heard what happens when a show is marked as a limited series.
It is not renewed for another season, and the first season concludes the entire narrative of the show. But it doesn’t mean that all of the limited series won’t be renewed.
There are very few shows that have been extended for another season notwithstanding being a limited series.
And it is exactly what every ‘Watchmen’ enthusiast has been hoping for. However, when something new came to light recently, the hope grew even stronger.
Something that made the audience believe there is a potentiality of a renewal. But we think we might not get a second season of ‘Watchmen’.
Lindelof planned the first season to be a complete story. Similar to how each season of Fargo and True Detective had a self-contained story.
Following the screening of the season one finale, Lindelof stated that the narrative he presented during the season was everything he could possibly convey about Watchmen. With a clear beginning, middle, and end.
The Possibility Of Watchmen’s Continuation
While HBO has not yet announced a second season following the show’s broadcast, Lindelof has suggested that if one is made, he will not likely return.
But will instead have another creator move up to write another narrative based in this universe. This happened after the conclusion of the initial season.
By January 2020, Lindelof actually mentioned that he would not be returning for a second season but had given his approval to whoever took over as showrunner.
In terms of a second season, HBO’s programming chief Casey Bloys commented, “It would be hard to imagine doing it without Damon involved in some way,” but not completely rejecting the prospect of one.
Bloys even informed a news outlet about it, adding, “Where we left it with Damon was he’s thinking about what he wants to do and I’m taking his lead on that. If he has an idea that he’s excited about, then I’m excited; if he wants to do something else, then that’s what I want to do.”
Watchmen is still classified as a limited series, and we haven’t heard anything about a potential second season in over two years.
You can, however, keep your spirits high, but not too much. Because we are unlikely to receive another season. But we might eventually wind up in the same universe.
