A week after its premiere on Netflix, which met with a thunderous response from the audience, The Night Agent has been renewed for a second season by the streaming platform. The action-thriller raked in a record-breaking viewership in its first weekend, which led to its immediate renewal.
The Night Agent follows a low-level FBI agent monitoring an emergency line that never rings until it does one day and pushes the agent into a dangerous international conspiracy. Read on to know more about the show’s renewal.
The Night Agent Renewed for Season 2 on Netflix
Netflix officially announced the second season on March 29, within a week of the show’s premiere on March 23. The next installment will also feature ten episodes, just like the first season. However, the release date for the second season has not been announced by Netflix yet.
Series creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan released a statement announcing the news and said, “The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world.”
“To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans,” he continued.
Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television also added, “We are thrilled to see The Night Agent become an instant global sensation and can’t wait to continue telling this story with our remarkable cast, creative leader, Shawn Ryan and our wonderful partners at Netflix.”
The Night Agent was Watched for 168.7 Million Hours in the First Few Days
Within the first week of its premiere, the show raked in 168.7 million viewing hours and became the third-best Season 1 for any Netflix original. The show also made it to the top 10 list in 93 countries.

The Show is Based on a Novel by Matthew Quirk
The Night Agent is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk. The synopsis for the series reads, “FBI Agent Peter Sutherland is thrown into a vast conspiracy about a mole at the highest levels of the United States government.”
“To save the nation, Peter plunges into a desperate hunt for the traitor, while working with the terrorized ex-CEO Rose Larkin and protecting her from the people who murdered her aunt and uncle.”
The Night Agent stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin, Fola Evans-Akingbola as Chelsea Arrington, Sarah Desjardins as Maddie Redfield, Eve Harlow as Ellen, Phoenix Raei as Dale, Enrique Murciano as Ben Almora, D. B. Woodside as Erik Monks, and Hong Chau as Diane Farr.
