Sofia Richie has revealed that she has converted to Judaism ahead of her wedding to fiancé Elliot Grainge. The 24-year-old model is all set to marry the music executive, who is Jewish, later this year.
Sofia, who is the daughter of legendary singer Lionel Richie, shared the update of her conversion on Instagram on April 3. She has been engaged to Grainge, 28, since April last year. Read on to know the complete details of the development.
Sofia Richie Converts to Judaism Ahead of Wedding
Sofia took to Instagram on Monday to post a picture of herself in her Stories and announced that she had converted to Judaism. “What a magical day. I want to thank cantor Nathan Lam for helping me along this journey of converting to Judaism. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Today was that day!!!,” she wrote.
The social media star was born a Christian. In an earlier interview, she talked about attending the Oaks Christian School while growing up in Los Angeles. “I went there for two years, and that’s where I got my sense. My family wanted church to be a place where we all went together,” she stated in 2016.
“My dad was always travelling, and my mom was always working. School is where I did Bible classes and studied God,” the fashion designer said, adding that her faith was the ‘main ground’ and ‘the most interesting thing’ in her life.
The Model will Get Married to Elliot Grainge This Year
Sofia is currently prepping for her wedding with Grainge. Last week, she went to a spa for her ‘pre wedding touch up.’ A few days before, she teased that her wedding date was coming closer by writing, “The countdown begins 👰🏼♀️.”
Elliot Grainge is the son of Universal Music Group CEO and chairman Lucian Grainge. His father has been a frequent collaborator with Lionel Richie. The singer talked about his daughter’s fiancé in an interview last year and said, “Well, I have to be honest with you, it was a slippery slope there for a moment—as all families—I love Elliot.”
“I’ve known him since he was 12. It was one of those things where I don’t have to go back and check out the kid. I know who he is. They are so happy. And as a papa, and as a dad, that’s my little girl. So, she’s in good hands,” added the 73-year-old.
The Couple Got Engaged in April 2022
Sofia made her relationship with Grainge official in April 2021. The record producer proposed to her during a romantic getaway a year later. A few days after her engagement, a source revealed, “They make each other really happy. He’s very mature and hard-working.”
“He has his own house, and she moved in with him a while ago. All of her friends are thrilled that she found true love. They’re a great match for each other.” Ever since, the two have been very vocal about their love and shared sweet messages for each other on social media.
