Sara Beth Liebe quits the show ‘American Idol’ following Katy Perry’s mom-shaming remarks

On Sunday night, Sara Beth Liebe told the judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan that she is leaving the show American Idol after her first Hollywood Week performance of The Police’s Roxanne.

Liebe said, “This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually gonna be my last performance ’cause my heart’s at home. So I’m gonna get home to my babies. They kinda need me. So thank you.”

The big announcement made by Liebe shocked and confused the judges who even requested her to come back and hear them out. Katy Perry who is herself a mom to her 2-year-daughter named Daisy Dove told her, “Sara Beth, I know life is scary. I also know that it’s easier to walk away than to be rejected. But then I also know that you lose out on your fullest potential.”

The One That Got Away singer further added, “Remember that self-love is just as big as motherly love. Don’t leave the competition.” Despite the fact that Sara Beth made it to the next round, she decided to quit anyway by saying she wished her kids “were a little older.”

The talented musician went on to spill the beans on her decision to quit the show American Idol and she continued, “I’m sure that when I get home, I’ll regret it.” After learning about Liebe’s exit, Katy said, “Man, that sucks. It’s not easy for anyone. Everyone has their own story.”

Regardless of Perry’s kind words in the moment, Sara Beth was just put off by a joke that the Roar pop star made during her initial audition. When Liebe told the judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan her age and that she had three kids, Katy stood up in shock.

At that time, Liebe said, “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m gonna pass out,”  to which the Firework singer responded, “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”

What did Sara Beth Liebe have to say about Katy Perry’s mom-shaming comments?

In a TikTok video shared last month, Liebe said, “There was a joke that was made that’s gotten a lot of attention, and I’ve gotten a lot of people reaching out to me asking how I’m feeling.”

At that time, the 25-year-old singer added, “It was embarrassing to have that on TV, and it was hurtful. I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom-shaming is super lame and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman.”
