CBS is canceling its hit crime drama show S.W.A.T. after a total of six seasons! The network is not renewing the show for a seventh season. At the moment, season 6 of the show is on the air.

CBS cancels ‘S.W.A.T.’ after six seasons
We have a piece of bad news for all the fans of the show S.W.A.T. The action-crime drama will be coming to an end soon. The television show has been canceled at CBS after six seasons.
In a statement issued, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment said, “For six seasons, the amazing talents of the S.W.A.T. cast led by Shemar Moore, the writers, producers and crew guided by Executive Producers Shawn Ryan, Andy Dettman and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas brought us compelling, action packed episodes that also addressed important social issues and contributed to the success of our primetime line up.”
She went on to say, “We sincerely thank them for their incredible work and passion and also thank our dedicated fans who tuned in every week.”
Has the show ‘S.W.A.T.’ been canceled due to bad ratings?
The answer to the above question is a big no. Ratings of the show are not the reason behind its cancelation. Over the last couple of years, S.W.A.T. has been one of the TV series whose ratings have increased with each passing year.
According to Nielsen’s Live + 7 data from late April, the show S.W.A.T. which is currently on air is averaging 6.8 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49. It is one of the most-watched TV shows.
In March, the executive producer/showrunner Ryan told Deadline, “From a ratings perspective, it’s a no-brainer to pick it up, the show is a big hit for CBS.”
He further added, “We live in this weird age now where economic conversations take place and take precedence over what viewers really want to watch on their screens, and hopefully Sony and CBS work out the details to bring it back because I know the fans want to.”
What is the show ‘S.W.A.T.’ all about?
For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, S.W.A.T. is a crime drama show which is based on the 1975 television series of the same name created by Robert Hamner and developed by Rick Husky.
S.W.A.T. stars Shemar Moore, Stephanie Sigman, Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit and Rochelle Aytes in pivotal roles. Shawn Ryan, Justin Lin, Neal Moritz, Marney Hochman, Pavun Shetty, Billy Gierhart, Andy Dettman, and Paul Bernard serve as the executive producers.
The show premiered on CBS in the year 2017. It was renewed for the sixth season in April 2022. The season 6 finale episode titled Legacy will air later this month on May 19.
