Rod Stewart’s Australia Concert Canceled Due to Viral Infection

Sir Roderick Stewart was all set to appear at A Day on the Green festival at Mt Duneed Estate in Geelong, Victoria in, Australia, on March 18.  Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens were announced as the support acts. However, on Saturday afternoon, a statement was posted by the three performers, announcing that the concert had been called off.

“Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment regret to announce that tonight’s performance, Saturday 18 March 2023, by Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens at Mt. Duneed Estate, Geelong will not go ahead due to illness. We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience to ticket holders.”

“A further announcement regarding the concert arrangements will be made early next week. We will contact you again with further instructions once we have an update from the promoters,” read the statement. At the time, the organizers did not reveal which singer’s health scare had caused the situation.

Stewart Said He was ‘Downhearted to Disappoint his Fans’

Shortly after the organizer’s statement, Stewart posted a message for his fans, revealing that he had a viral infection and irritation in his throat. “Hello my friends. I’m absolutely downhearted that I’m disappointing my fans who bought tickets to A Day On The Green,” he wrote.

“Late this morning I was advised that I have a viral infection and my throat was too irritated to sing. I’m only human and sometimes get sick just like you do. My greatest joy is performing for you, so I’m doing everything I can to get on the mend and back on stage!” the Young Turks singer added.

A number of fans then sent their prayers and wished for the singer’s speedy recovery. “You’re in our hearts, you’re in ours souls 🎶 Get well soon! Bless you. ❤️,” commented a follower. “Sending beautiful get well wishes to you for a quick recovery! Take care, don’t push yourself, and you are amazing!,” wrote another.

Ticket Holders Upset with the Cancelation

While the reason behind the show’s cancelation was genuine, ticket-holders who had traveled long distances to attend the concert were upset. “Flew from Hobart to see Rod, how will we be able to come back over now? Devo! We bought these tickets for my mum as a present as it’s her dream,” wrote a person on A Day on the Green’s page.

“Hope their insurance covers our accommodation and day off work. No email notification to ticket holders. Ended up receiving an email at 1.52pm, 63 minutes before the bus was due to collect us from [the] hotel,” expressed another.

We wish a speedy recovery to Rod Stewart and hope to see him back on stage soon. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
