A new report suggests that The Legend of Korra, a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender’s sequel is going to get another sequel series with brand new characters. Reports suggest that the series may come in late 2025 as of now.
New Sequel Series Is Coming on 2025
Avatar News has confirmed on Twitter that an original animated series is in development. The series will focus on “the next earth Avatar in the cycle after Aang and Korra”. The upcoming series will be produced under Paramount and Avatar Studios. But the series is not coming earlier as it has announced coming in 2025.

Even though the social post does not disclose many details about the series. But the official news has given a hint about the plot. It suggests: “Currently we don’t know how far in the future this Avatar’s era will be set, but a very rough approximation based on previous Avatars is that if it’s set ~100 years after Korra’s time, it will be in the Avatar world’s equivalent of our world’s present day.”
The Avatar franchise will be very busy as there is an animated movie that has a scheduled release date of October 10, 2025, to hit the theatres. According to Avatar News, these two releases in the same year are “part of a much bigger plan”. The official news has also confirmed that the new series may come out in either November or December of 2025.
The animated film will focus on grown-up versions of Aang and his friends and their new journey. The film is also the very first project of the newly-formed Avatar Studios. At this moment, the studio is “working on multiple projects in parallel right now.”
Many Other Projects Are in Development
Avatar News has always been a reliable source of information regarding Avatar news. Thews even revealed Netflix’s upcoming live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series before the official announcement.
The news also once claimed that the three films are in work. The first one of them focuses on the Earth Kingdom-born Avatar known as Kyoshi. The second film will reportedly focus on an older version of Zuko. But the third one will take place during the Legend of Korra era.
But the report did not come out entirely true. The first movie will follow the original Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the new sequel, Aang and his company will return once again.
The Live Action Series
The original series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, was first released back in 2005 and ended in 2008. In that series, the airbending Avatar, Aang, was the main protagonist. He had long hardships to gain all the knowledge of to be Avatar. The series had 3 seasons in total.
Following the success of that series, The Legend of Korra came out in 2012 on Nickelodeon. Water Tribe’s Korra’s Avatar journey was covered in 4 seasons from 2012 to 2014.
Netflix first announced a live-action series remake of The Last Airbender in September 2018. Netflix Geeked has recently shared a new update on Twitter. It may be an indication of a new teaser trailer is around the corner. While Talking to Variety, Peter Friedlander revealed the big production behind Avatar The Last Airbender and the delay on such big projects. These small details are keeping excited about the upcoming live-action series.
