Minions 2: The Rise of Gru Release Date, Plot and More Updates

Minions: The Rise of Gru, commonly known as Minions 2 is a much-awaited animated comedy movie produced by Illumination Entertainment and released by Universal Pictures. This is the fifth movie in the Despicable Me series, and the sequel to Minions (2015).

Minions: The Rise of Gru Release Date

Universal Pictures and Illumination confirmed the follow-up to their animated picture Minions in January 2017. The filming of the movie started in July 2017, with Brad Ableson joining as a co-director.

The movie’s title was released in May 2019 as Minions: The Rise of Gru. Following the brief shutdown of Illumination Mac Guff, the shooting of the film switched to remote labor during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Minions: The Rise of Gru was supposed to be premiered in the U.S on the 3rd of July, 2020, but was delayed by a year to July 2, 2021, owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, with the film remaining incomplete due to Illumination Mac Guff’s temporary shutdown in reaction to the pandemic.

The timeframe was again extended in March 2021, this time until July 1, 2022.  Universal Pictures intends to launch Minions: The Rise of Gru in theaters in the U.S on the 1st of July, 2022.

As part of an 18-month arrangement, Minions: The Rise of Gru will be available to watch on Universal’s Peacock site 4 months after its theatrical premiere. After then, the movie would spend ten months on Amazon Prime Video before heading to Peacock for the remaining four months.

Minions 2: The Rise of Gru Plot

We’re likely to see Gru as a 12-year-old growing up in the suburbs just after the 2015 film, in the early 1970s. Gru, an admirer of the Vicious 6 supervillain organization, devises a strategy to become bad enough to accompany them.

Gru interviews to join the Vicious 6 after its leader, renowned fighter Wild Knuckles, is fired. It doesn’t go well, and circumstances only become worse when Gru, with the aid of Kevin, Bob, Stuart, Otto, and the other Minions, takes a valuable stone from them and becomes the deadly enemy of the apex of evil.

On the move, Gru and the Minions will seek advice from an unusual source: Wild Knuckles himself, and learn that even bad men need a little aid from their pals.
