Netflix’s latest thriller outing, Lockwood & Co., is a ghost-hunters story with a twist. The show, based on Jonathan Stroud’s book series of the same name, follows three teenage ghost-hunters who fight deadly spirits without adult supervision and financial motives.
The first season of the series, comprising eight episodes, premiered recently. Many fans who have binged on the show are now eagerly awaiting its return with a second season. But is Lockwood & Co. renewed for season 2? Read on to find out.
Lockwood & Co. Season 2: Renewal Status and Potential Release Date
Lockwood & Co. has not been officially renewed for season 2 at the time of writing. Netflix usually takes a few weeks before announcing a show’s renewal after analyzing its viewership numbers, ratings and overall budget. So it remains to be seen if the streaming platform will order a second season of the series.
What works in the favor of the show is that there is still a lot of source material left to be covered. The book series by Jonathan Stroud has five volumes, out of which only the first two have been covered in the show till now. So in order to conclude the story, another season will be required.
Showrunner and director Joe Cornish also expressed his interest in developing a second season of Lockwood & Co. and said, “You know, the books get better and better, the world is explored in a very unexpected and exciting way, there’s some incredible set pieces and twists and new directions to come.”
“We very, very much hope people watch and enjoy and that we can carry on telling the story that Jonathan Stroud has so brilliantly written,” he said. The show was announced back in December 2021, with production beginning in July 2021, after which it premiered on January 27, 2023.
If the same trend is followed and the renewal is announced in the next few weeks, expect the series to drop its second season by late 2024 or early 2025. So we will still have to wait for almost two years for the show’s return.
Lockwood & Co. Season 2: Expected Storyline
If the second season is green-lit, it will continue to follow the storyline of the book series. Talking about the potential season 2, Cornish had added, “We’d continue with the books.” The first season ended with some unanswered questions. The exact fate of Lockwood’s parents has not been revealed yet, which will probably be dealt with in the next season.
Another important plot point will be Lockwood’s mysterious room, which was kept locked throughout the eight episodes till the finale. By the end of the season, the room door was flung open, but we will have to wait till the next season to find out what was hidden inside.
Lockwood & Co. Season 2: Star Cast
If the show goes ahead with season 2, the main cast is expected to reprise their roles. The star cast includes Ruby Stokes as Lucy Carlyle, Cameron Chapman as Anthony Lockwood, Ali Hadji-Heshmati as George Karim, and Ivanno Jeremiah as Inspector Barnes.
The show also stars Morven Christie as Penelope Fittes, Jemma Moore as Annabel Ward, Jack Bandeira as Quill Kipps, Hayley Konadu as Flo Bones, Rhianna Dorris as Kat Godwin, Paddy Holland as Bobby Vernon and Rico Vina as Ned Shaw.
