Global Citizen has announced the venues and dates of the 10th anniversary of its Global Citizen Festival. This year, the festival will take place on September 24 in two different cities: New York City and Accra in Ghana.
The lineup for both the cities has also been announced, and it seems pretty exciting. While the New York stage will feature performers such as Metallica and Charlie Puth; Usher and Stormzy will be enthralling the audience in Accra. Global Citizen Festival Venues
The NYC concert will take place at Central Park, and the Accra show will be held at Black Star Square. The festival will be broadcast and streamed live on ABC, ABC News Live, FX, Hulu, iHeartRadio, TimesLIVE, Twitter and YouTube.
A primetime special, Global Citizen Festival: Take Action NOW, will be aired on ABC on Sunday, September 25 at 7:00 pm ET or 6:00 pm CT. The global campaign has been organized to empower girls, close the climate finance gap, alleviate the global food crisis, and relieve crushing debts. This year’s campaign aims to end extreme poverty.
Hugh Evans, Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen, said in a statement, “We refuse to just stand by and watch! We refuse to accept the starvation of multitudes when solutions are readily at hand. We demand a secure future for girls everywhere.”
“We demand governments keep their promises on climate funding. We demand relief from debts unjustly crushing economies. And we demand action NOW, while there’s still time to change our collective trajectory,” he added.
Global Citizen Festival Venues Lineup
The NYC lineup includes Metallica, Charlie Puth, Jonas Brothers, MÅNESKIN, Mariah Carey, Mickey Guyton, and Rosalía. Actor and Global Citizen Ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas will be hosting the event on September 24.
Accra’s Black Star Square will see performances by Usher, Gyakie, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Stormzy, SZA, and TEMS. Revealing the name of the performers, Global Citizen wrote on their Instagram, “Accra and NYC, are you ready for #GlobalCitizenFestival? We know we are!”
“We cannot wait for these incredible artists to grace the Global Citizen stage at this year’s festivals in NYC’s Central Park – where we’ll be celebrating 10 years of impact – and Accra’s Black Star Square – a historic site that represents democracy, independence, and equality,” the caption read further.
How to get Tickets for the Festival
Just like every year, the tickets for the concert can not be bought and have to be earned by performing certain tasks through Global Citizen’s official app or www.globalcitizen.org
One can take actions such as signing petitions, taking quizzes, sharing messages on social media, writing letters to world leaders, and more to help support the campaign. Each action will give the user some points that can be used to enter ticket draws and stand a chance of get the tickets.
At the end of each drawing period, Global Citizen randomly selects winners who receive a notification by email. The winner then has 48 hours to claim two tickets through their app or website.
