Dead & Company Announces Final Tour of the Group

Rock band Dead & Company won’t be touring anymore after their upcoming summer tour. The band, formed by John Mayer and the members of the Grateful Dead, will be touring in summer 2023 for a final time. The band is yet to chalk out the tour itinerary but made an official announcement about calling it quits after their final tour in 2023.

The Final Tour: Dead & Co. Summer 2023

John Mayer’s recent announcement has left many rock music lovers heartbroken. On Friday (September 24), Mayer took to Instagram and posted an announcement regarding the final tour of the rock band “Dead & Company”. The statement reads as under:

“As we put the finishing touches on booking venues, and understanding that word travels fast, we wanted to be the first to let you know that Dead & Company will be hitting the road next summer for what will be our final tour. Stay tuned for a full list of dates for what will surely be an exciting, celebratory, and heartfelt last run of shows. With love and appreciation, Dead & Company.”

The statement suggests that “Dead & Company”, formed by John Mayer and members of the “Grateful Dead” are still chalking out details of the booking venues, but again, they have confirmed that the upcoming summer tour will be their final one. Their final tour poster reads: “The Final Tour: Dead & Co. Summer 2023”.

Many band members and further fans took to the comment section and expressed their disappointment. Young And Sick, an LA and New York-based band wrote, “bittersweet but magical, thank you John for adding so much beauty to the Grateful galaxy! See you there one more Saturday night.”

Sammy Hager, also known as “The Red Rocker” wrote: “guess all good things must come to an end eventually. What a great lineup. What a great legacy, and what a great band. You can bet you will see my happy ass at a lot of these shows.” One fan wrote: “Final tour! The grief! The celebration! I’ve so appreciated the shows y’all recently released on Spotify!”

If you aren’t aware, ahead of this year’s summer tour, everyone was speculating that the band would be “calling it quits” after 2022. Grateful Dead’s originals, Weir and Bill Kreutzmann, however, were shocked by the rumours. Now, Weir wrote on Twitter: “Well it looks like that’s it for this outfit, but don’t worry we will all be out there in one form or another until we drop…,” as he expressed about the band’s final tour.

John Was Inspired By “Grateful Dead”…

The band was formed in 2015 after Mayer was inspired by listening to “Althea” by Grateful Dead”. While guest-hosting ‘The Late Late Show’, he invited Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir to join him in a studio performance, and the two became friends. Soon, John, along with the three surviving members of the Grateful Dead: Weir, Hart, and Kreutzmann, formed “Dead & Company”, along with keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and bassist Oteil Burbridge.

Since hosting their first tour in October 2015, the famous rock band has toured annually. Of course, during the Covid-19 pandemic, their 2022 tour got pushed further. In fact, during the 2016 tour, Mayer said he “will never close the door on Dead & Company, ever.” But here they are, coming up with the last poster: “The Final Tour: Dead & Co. Summer 2023”.

The band has dazzled its many fans with their active tours each year. We are not sure about the reason behind this shocking announcement, but yea, Bill Kreutzmann has been dealing with multiple health issues for the past few years. Nevertheless, there is no official announcement as to why the band is calling it quits, but as Mayer said, “The world is travelling fast,” and they wanted to be the first one to inform their fans.

As for the last tour, the band will be resuming their tradition of “Playing In The Sand” shows, from January 14-17, 2023. However, details regarding the venue, tickets, locations et al, are yet to be confirmed. Keep reading for more updates on their final tour. Are you a “Dead & Company” fan? Well, they could have played for a bit longer, isn’t it?
