Blood Sisters Trailer has Hints of Love, Breakup, Murder, Abuse and Much More

Netflix and EbonyLife Studios have come together to announce the cast of the original Nigerian series called the Blood Sisters. This is the latest collaboration by Netflix and EbonyLife Studios.

It is a four-part script-to-screen series that is directed by Biyi Bandele and Kenneth Gyang. While Biyi is known for Half A Yellow Sun, Kenneth is known for Òlòtūré. The show will release at Netflix on May 5, 2022.

What is Blood Sisters About?

The show stars Ini Dima-Okojie and Nancy Isime as the leading ladies. The show was created by Temidayo Makanjuola. It follows the journey of the two friends Sarah (Dima-Okojie) and Kemi (Isime). Sarah is engaged to the man of her dreams, Kola. Kola is played by Deyemi Okanlawon. He is physically abusive to his fiancé and is also controlling.

Although their relationship seems normal on the outside, Kemi, being a good friend, does not approve of the wedding. However, Sarah’s determination to get married cannot be shaken. The series take interesting turns as the story involves themes of love, betrayal, murder, and the test of friendship. It also includes drug addiction, intra-family connections, and much more.

The series is set on the busy background of Lagos, Nigeria. The series of limited episodes or parts is a homage to the country and its city life. There is also an interesting juxtaposition of the socioeconomic gaps that exist between the social and commercial metropolis.

Who Stars In The Blood Sisters?

The show stars known actors like Ramsey Nouah, Kate Henshaw, Segun Arinze, Uche Jombo, and Joke Silva. The show also stars on-screen favorites like Wale Ojo, Gabriel Afolayan, Daniel Etim Effiong, Keppy Ekpenyong-Bassey, Kehinde Bankole, Maurice Sam, Toke Makinwa, Ibrahim Suleiman, and Okey Uzoeshi.

The four-part series is written by Craig Freimond and Zelipa Zulu.

Mo Abudu, from EbonyLife Studios said “Blood Sisters is a crime thriller, which is a new genre for us, so the prospect was challenging but very exciting! It was also a particularly unique and intense experience as we shot during the pandemic, but we remained committed to the vision we share with Netflix – to tell authentic and exciting African stories with superb production values.”

More About The Trailer And The Blood Sisters

The trailer for the series depicts the characters mysteriously. Their real intent is kept under wraps as they celebrate Sarah and Kola’s engagement and upcoming wedding. Netflix and EbonyLife Studios have backed up the project with great quality and expensive cars and attire. The trailer does not reveal any details about the main plot or the sub-plots but reveals enough to keep the viewer interested.

Interest of the fans are evident as one of them commented “Can’t wait to watch🙌. if we can do more of this type of movies here then there are tons of scripts waiting to be made into beautiful stories.”

Although most of the comments were positive, some fans were reminded of the original series. One user commented “Who remembers the orignal nollywood blood sisters movie?”

However, that was not the only movie with the same name. There was also a Philippine TV series by the same name that premiered on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida back in 2018. It will be exciting to see how this particular “Blood Sisters” fares against the rest of them.
