Bipasha Basu is known for 2 things: for being a fiercely sexy actress and for catapulting the genre of horror films in Bollywood. The latter is why she has been pegged The Queen of horror in Bollywood.  She has managed to build a career on dark thrillers and take on roles that fall outside of the cookie-cutter types other stars often have etched out for them.

Aside from starring in numerous horror thrillers, the Bengali actress is also credited with bringing forth the genre of horror films to the mainstream. Before Basu’s epic horror film, “Raaz” Bollywood saw very few horror flicks and mostly churned out formulaic “masala” films. Basu’s showed that there was an audience ready for movies other than syrupy love stories.

Her success in horror flicks paved the way to more mainstream actresses and actors taking on the subgenre of horror and psychological thrillers. Since the rise of horror films in Bollywood, we’ve seen the productions of seriously scary films, like Urmila Matondkar’s “Bhoot” and Emraan Hashmi’s “Ek Tha Daiyaan,” reach mainstream success.

With Halloween only days away, we thought we’d get into the holiday spirit with a horror flick marathon filled with our favorite thrillers starring The Queen.

Here’s your starter-pack of 5 horror films starring Basu that you absolutely need to see to get in the Halloween groove:

1. Raaz

Bipsha Basu and Dino Moreo’s “Raaz” was an unofficial remake of Michelle Pfeiffer’s “What Lies Beneath.” This film is the start of Basu’s epic horror film career and it launched Basu and Moreo into Bollywood stardom. Basu was even nominated for Filmfare’s Best Actress Award. The story follows a young couple who head out to Ooty to rekindle their love and work out some problems.  Unbeknownst to them, a spirit is after them.

2. Raaz 3

Basu wasn’t in the sequel to “Raaz” but the horror queen returns for part 3 of the series. Director Vikram Bhatt and producer Mahesh Bhatt return for “Raaz 3.” This time Basu goes from being the damsel in distress to the villain with dark magic. Basu plays Shanaya, an award-winning actress at the top of her game with a steamy affair with director Aditya (played by Emraan Hashmi). However, her stardom starts to fall as Sanjana, played by Esha Gupta, launches her career in the film industry and begins to take Shanaya’s place as a top actress and Aditya’s lover. To win back Aditya and her position as the top actress, Shanaya uses black magic to torture the couple.

3. Darna Zaroori Hai

“Darna Zaroori Hai,” is a story within a story. The film starts with five lost children in a forest who come upon an old lady in an abandoned house. The game is to sit through her six stories without getting scared. The old woman begins her horror stories and each one is a creepy tale of ghosts and death. The short stories star some of Bollywood’s best including, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Bipasha Basu, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda and more.

4. Aatma

“Aatma” is a psychological thriller starring Bipasha Basu and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. In the film, Maya (Basu) and Abhay (Siddiqui) are a divorced couple with a beautiful little daughter, Nia. Siddiqui plays a man with a bad temper who is abusive.

Maya finally divorces him and gains sole custody of their daughter. However, after the case is settled, an angry Abhay dies in a car accident and Maya never tells her daughter that her dad died. Things start getting scary as those criticizing Nia start to die. Nia talks to her dad all the time and the spirit of her father returns and attempts to take her with him. A chilling movie to say the least!

5. Alone

Basu stars in “Alone” with her now-husband Karan Singh Grover. This film is as sexy as it is scary, the two were fire on screen! “Alone” is possibly Basu’s darkest and sexiest horror film. The plot of the story is that Basu was born a conjoined twin, Anjana, and Sanjana, but when they wanted to separate Anjana died in the surgery. Sanjana marries her childhood love Kabir (Karan Singh Grover). When Sanjana’s mother gets into an accident the couple returns home but strange things start to happen as the spirit of Anjana begins torturing Sanjana.
