The 1988 “Beetlejuice” A Comedy Classic
The first Beetlejuice film was released more than three decades ago. Michael Keaton played the titular character while Winona Ryder played Lydia Deetz. Alec Baldwin starred as Adam Maitland and Geena Davis starred as Barbara Maitland.
The plot of the original1988 film revolved around a deceased couple who, as “ghosts haunt their former home, contact Beetlejuice, an obnoxious and devious “bio-exorcist” from the Netherworld, to scare away the house’s new inhabitants.” The movie was applauded for its spooky and creepy visuals and is remembered as a comedy classic.
The movie grossed over $74.7 million from a budget of US$15 million, winning an Academy Award for Best Makeup and several other accolades. The film’s success led to an animated series, video games, and a stage musical. While not much is known about the upcoming sequel, we can tell that it will continue Lydia Deetz’s daughter’s story.
