Ana de Armas Stuns As Marilyn Monroe In Netflix’s Blonde Trailer

Ana de Armas has stepped into the shoes of Marilyn Monroe. Armas plays the iconic actress in her new Netflix film titled Blonde. The streaming platform released the first official trailer of the film on Thursday.

The movie is a fictional take on Monroe’s life and is based on the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. Blonde has been rated NC-17 for its graphic sexual content. Read on to watch the trailer and learn more about the film.

Blonde Trailer Shows Dark Side of Fame

The 2 minutes 9 seconds trailer features Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, dealing with the dark side of fame. She is seen breaking down while being at the peek of her success, as the 1950s star’s “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” plays in the background.

Monroe is heard saying in the trailer, “I know you’re supposed to get used to it, but I just can’t. I can’t face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe.”

She adds, “When I come out of my dressing room, I’m Norma Jeane. I’m still her when the camera is rolling. Marilyn Monroe only exists on the screen.”

Apart from Armas, the film will star Adrien Brody as Arthur Miller, Bobby Cannavale as Joe DiMaggio, Xavier Samuel as Charles Chaplin Jr., Julianne Nicholson as Gladys Pearl Baker, Caspar Phillipson as John F. Kennedy and Toby Huss as Allan ‘Whitey’ Snyder.

Blonde will start streaming on Netflix on September 28, 2022. Watch the dramatic trailer below.

Blonde Re-imagines Monroe’s Life

The film is said to be a bold re-imagination of one of America’s most enduring icon. The official synopsis of the film reads, “After a traumatic childhood, Norma Jeane Mortensen became an actress in the Hollywood of the 1950s and early 1960s.”

“She became world famous under the pseudonym Marilyn Monroe (Ana de Armas). But her on-screen appearances are in stark contrast to the love issues, exploitation, abuse of power, and drug addiction she faced in her private life,” the synopsis further reads.

Blonde is written and directed by Andrew Dominik. The project has been in development since 2012, with Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain previously being in talks to play the leading role.

Ana de Armas Talks About her Hard Work in the Film

Armas revealed that she put in a lot of research and hard work for her role in the film. She said in an interview, “We worked on this film for hours, every single day for almost a year. I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph.”

“We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story,” she added.

The actress spent two to three hours every day getting her hair and make-up done to look the part. Talking about her performance, director Andrew said, “She was so good. She would get there so quickly. Her feelings were just so under her skin, and anything I said to her, she really understood. The scenes would always just come to life because Ana was there.”
