Amazon Prime Video released the first look of Donald Glover’s “Swarm”, and it has increased the curiosity among friends about the upcoming horror-thriller series. While much has been kept under wraps, the series will make its world premiere at the upcoming SXSW festival and would be released on March 17, 2023, on Amazon’s Prime Video.
Here’s The First Teaser Of “Swarm”
The first look of Donald Glover’s “Swarm” is making fans wonder what the upcoming horror-thriller series looks like. Amazon Prime Video recently released the first creepy teaser of the series, co-written with Janine Nabers. If you have seen it already, you may be aware that the teaser introduces viewers to Dominique Fishaback’s character Dre, whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn.
Malia Obama (Michelle Obama and Barack Obama’s daughter) is one of the writers on the show! The question, “Who is your favourite artist?” is asked over and over again, with a buzzing sound featured throughout the teaser. The SXSW logline for Swarm reads: “Murder. Sex. Music” is the SXSW logline. The series revolves around a Beyoncé-like figure.
What’s The Cast And Plot?
“Swarm” stars Dominique Fishback (Dre), Chloe Bailey (Dre’s sister, Marissa), and Damson Idris (Dre’s boyfriend). While much has been kept under wraps, Glover recently described the series as a “post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy”. Fishback, who appears in the lead role, revealed: “I heard from my team that Donald was creating a show and wanted me to be part of it.
The actor continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, shoot! Donald Glover knows me. That’s pretty cool.” If you aren’t aware, Fishback was originally approached to play Marissa but urged the creators to let her take the lead role. “I don’t want to be able to catch up to myself as an actor,” Fishback revealed in the interview. “[Dre] didn’t give a lot of direction about who she was, why she felt the way she did. I really had to go on instinct.”
Co-creator, Janine Nabers added that they had inspiration from TV antiheroes like Don Draper (Mad Men) and Tony Soprano to create an antihero “through the lens of a Black, modern-day woman”, i.e Dre. Executive producers include Stephen Glover, Steven Prinz, Fam Udeorji and Michael Schaefer with Fishback as a producer of the show. The horror thriller will premiere on Prime Video on March 17.
Malia Obama, who served as the writer of the show, revealed in an interview: “I heard from my team that Donald was creating a show and wanted me to be part of it. I was like, ‘Oh, shoot! Donald Glover knows me. That’s pretty cool.” Now, if we go by the first teaser, one thing is sure! “Swarm” is going to be a promising, creepy and bloody series, which serves its write-up well. Let’s find it out together on March, 17th.
