Here’s everything you need to know about ALS
ALS is commonly also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a rare degenerative disease that results in progressive paralysis of the muscles. At first, the patients experience twitching or weakness in a limb, followed by slurred speech.
As per Mayo Clinic, because the disease impacts the nerve cells in the brain as well as the spine that control muscle movement, patients gradually lose their ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe on their own.
It has been reported by the Muscular Dystrophy Association that, as of this moment, there is no cure for ALS which means it typically claims the lives of people who have been diagnosed with this disease within three to five years. Even though, some patients can live for decades.
