What happened to Sinbad?

Almost 2 years after the stroke, Sinbad’s family has finally shared a health update about the comedian. They spilled the beans on the medical journey of Sinbad since the stroke that took place in 2020 to now.

His family issued a statement about Sinbad’s journey on the official website. It read, “On October 25, 2020, Sinbad suffered an ischemic stroke as a result of a blood clot that traveled from his heart to his brain. He was rushed into surgery at West Hills Medical Center that night where the doctor’s performed a thrombectomy to remove the clot and restore normal blood flow to the brain.”

They further stated that Sinbad underwent a thrombectomy to remove the clot, after which he was mobile and he even began talking with some weakness but the “prognosis was very promising.”

And the very next day, another blood clot was formed. However, it was half the size of the original one. Then, David Atkins popularly known as Sinbad had to undergo another thrombectomy to get rid of the clot. The surgery was successful but “took a little more from him than the first surgery.”

Then, the Jingle All The Way star’s brain began swelling up, so the doctors had to perform a craniotomy to relieve the pressure, during which they found a bleed. Then, he was shifted to ICU, where doctors put him in a medically-induced coma and placed him on a ventilator. He went home after nearly a year.

Sinbad’s family has revealed that his insurance is not covering the whole cost of the therapy needed for his rehabilitation. They set up a donation page to cover the cost of his medical expenses. At this moment, donations will be of big help to the star.
