American actor Michael Lerner has left for the heavenly abode. The beloved actor who was noted for his Oscar-nominated performance in the movie Barton Fink has passed away at the age of 81.

Michael Lerner’s death was confirmed by his nephew, The Goldbergs actor Sam Lerner, via a post on the social media platform Instagram. He shared a carousel of pictures of Michael from over the years on Instagram.

In the Instagram post, Sam called the Hollywood actor Michael Lerner a “legend,” and mentioned how “influential” he was to him. He further added, “I’m so lucky I got to spend so much time with him, and we’re all lucky we can continue to watch his work for the rest of time.”

For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, Michael who was born on June 22, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York City was the son of Blanche and George Lerner. His dad was a junk dealer.

Before entering the world of cinema, Lerner played a small part in an experimental film directed by his former roommate in London, Yoko Ono. Soon after, he essayed the role of  Paul Corliss in Michael Ritchie’s The Candidate. 

Michael shot to fame after portraying the role of White House press secretary Pierre Salinger in the 1974 ABC telefilm The Missiles of October. Shortly afterward, he was seen as Jack Ruby in the 1978 CBS docudrama Ruby and Oswald.

Following that, in 1991, Lerner bagged a nomination for an Academy Award for his great performance as movie mogul Jack Lipnick in Ethan and Joel Cohen’s Barton Fink. From 1996 to 1997, he played the role of Mel Horowitz, Cher’s father, in the television show Clueless.
