Back in the day, Alley went to Wichita Southeast High School and graduated in the year 1969. After a while, she attended Kansas State University, but she dropped out after Sophomore year. Then, she shifted to Los Angeles to pursue Scientology and work as an interior designer.

In 1979, Kirstie appeared as a contestant on the game show Match Game. At that point, she managed to win both rounds. She won $500 in the first round and $5500 in the second round.

Next year, Alley made another appearance on a game show named Password Plus. During her stints on both game shows, she described her profession as an interior designer. In 1981, her parents got involved in a bad accident that consisted of a drunk driver. Unfortunately, her mom passed away after the accident, on the other hand, her dad got seriously injured.
