Melvin dropped his obituary on the social networking site Instagram on May 4, 2022 (Wednesday). The fans of the singer who thought that the actor had died were initially devastated when he uploaded the post.

He inserted a link, “tremelvin.org/obituary 🕊” in the caption of the post.

In the obituary that has been posted by Tré, we can see a black and white photo of him. It reads, “IN LOVING MEMORY OF TRÉ MELVIN OCTOBER 28, 1992- MAY 6, 2022.”

Melvin posted his obituary on various social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter on May 4, 2022. When his fans from all over the world saw it, they believed that he had passed away and they began paying tributes to him on social media.

But then a twist in the tale came, when his eagle-eyed fans observed something fishy in his obituary. It stated his birth date which is October 28, 1992, and his death date as May 6, 2022, which is two days ahead in the future.

His obituary read, “An outdated variant of Dayton, Ohio-born actor, writer, producer, singer, songwriter, designer, poet, philanthropist, clairvoyant, and digital creator Tré Melvin peacefully departed this life, for the thousandth time, on Friday, May 6, 2022. Upon his deathbed, he documented his final thoughts.”

Soon afterward, the fans learned that Melvin is still alive, he is not dead and they were outraged. They started posting their thoughts on the same on social media.

During an interview with Blavity, Tré spilled the beans on this entire situation that revolves around his obituary. He stated that he wanted to put out his obituary before dropping his new single Die 1000 Times so it was a marketing strategy in short to spread awareness about his new single.

Melvin also added that there’s a thought-provoking message behind the controversial marketing move. He said, “I chose to explore the cycle of death in this particular chapter to venerate my late best friend, Katherya Pacheco, and each of my benevolent ancestors.”

The artist continued, “Each individual’s relationship with death differs from the next. Many view it to be taboo; too frightening a subject to discuss. But one thing I’ve learned from the car collision that rendered Kathy and I unconscious in June of 2020, and her earthly passing the following day, is that death is everything but.”

One user tweeted, “I knew this was a lie because obituaries always have a picture that dont fit the person cuz they family picked it out so it would be like a thug in a suit. This is too on brand.”
