Christopher Julius Rock was born in the year 1965 in Andrews, South Carolina. His family relocated to Brooklyn, New York before finally settling in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Because of harassment and bullying in school, he dropped out and earned his GED (General Educational Development) while working at fast-food restaurants.

Rock made his entry into the world of stand-up comedy in the year 1984 at the club “Catch a Rising Star” in New York City. He started getting recognition slowly and started getting roles in TV series like “Miami Vice”.

Famous Hollywood actor, Eddie Murphy saw him performing at a nightclub and befriended Rock. He started mentoring him and helped him to bag a big-screen role in “Beverly Hills Cop II” film which was released in the year 1987.

He purchased a 13,000 square-foot mansion in Alpine, New Jersey in 2001 for $3 million.
