What are Legacy Credits in Overwatch 2 and How to Spend/Transfer Them?

Overwatch 2 introduced a new currency system revolving around coins and tokens as the game becomes free to play for everyone. This has left the older players wondering what happens to the piles of Legacy Credits they collected in Overwatch. So, here’s what you can buy with Legacy Credits or Coins in Overwatch 2 and how to transfer them.

Blizzard has rolled out Overwatch 2 with a number of key changes and new features. The game now features 5-on-5 PvP battles instead of the previously available 6v6 system and there’s also a Battle Pass in the game.

When Overwatch shut down, the Legacy Credits players stocked up were also deemed obsolete. Fortunately, Blizzard provides a way to transfer the Legacy Coins to Overwatch 2 via cross-progression support.

What are Legacy Credits in Overwatch 2?

Overwatch 2 introduced a freemium model where the game is free-to-play but there are purchases you can make in the game such as battle passes, cosmetics, and other items. The game uses Overwatch Coins and Tokens as the main currency.

The Legacy Credits are the transferred currency from the original Overwatch that players can use to buy certain items in Overwatch 2. They aren’t valued the same as the newly added Overwatch Coins and there’s no way to earn them anymore.

Overwatch players used to collect them by saving loot boxes and opening all of them at once to get compensation for repeated items or by other methods. Those days are gone for now.

What can you buy using Legacy Credits?

There are a limited number of items you can buy using the Legacy Credits in Overwatch 2. You can spend the credits to purchase a range of cosmetics that are deemed “core launch cosmetics.”

These include basic skins for several heroes including the new ones Kiriko, Junker Queen, and Sojourn. You can buy the two legendary, one epic, and four rare skins available outside the special events using your legacy credits.

However, you can’t purchase any special store or promotional items using them. These include hero bundles and special offers such as the Watchpoint pack. You can also not spend the legacy credits on special event skins.

Can you buy a Battle Pass with Legacy Coins in Overwatch 2?

No, you can’t buy a Battle Pass in Overwatch 2 using Legacy Credits. You can only buy the Premium Battle Pass for 1,000 Overwatch Coins (which roughly cost $10 depending on your region).

There’s also an option to buy Battle Pass Premium Plus for 2,200 Overwatch Coins which unlocks 20 additional tiers to give you a head start.

Can you Convert Legacy Credits to Overwatch Coins in OW2?

No. You cannot convert Legacy Credits to Overwatch Coins via any method in Overwatch 2. There’s no way to do that. You can only spend them on the items we’ve mentioned above.

There’ll be plenty of items from the anniversary event that you missed previously but can purchase using the legacy coins now.

How to Transfer Legacy Credits to Overwatch 2?

Overwatch’s Legacy Credits are automatically transferred to Overwatch 2 when you properly transition your account and sync the data. Make sure you are using the same account in the Battle.net client to play Overwatch 2 that you previously used to play.

Other than that, you don’t have to take any extra measures to transfer the Legacy Credits to Overwatch 2. You’ll simply find them in your account just like the trophies and achievements you completed in Overwatch.

The smooth transfer is a result of Blizzard’s impressive cross-progression and cross-play support for Overwatch 2 across all platforms.

Overwatch 2 feels way more incredible when you have cool-looking skins and other cosmetics. Spend your Legacy Credits and Overwatch Coins wisely to astonish the rest of the server.
