20th Century Studios has unveiled the official trailer for The Boogeyman, a supernatural horror film that showcases every child’s worst nightmare coming true: a monster under their bed. The film is based on a 1973 short story of the same name by Stephen King, which is touted as one of the scariest works of the author.

The Boogeyman Trailer Features Nightmares Coming True
The trailer shows the girls fighting for their lives as they feel the presence of a sadistic supernatural being in their home. Meanwhile, their psychiatrist father is oblivious to the monster, which was brought by one of his patients.
The film was initially planned to be released directly on Hulu. However, a test screening was held in December 2022, which got an extremely positive response and led to the producers opting for a theatrical release. The Boogeyman will now be released theatrically on June 2, 2023. Watch the scary trailer below.

The Film is Based on Stephen King’s Short Story
The Boogeyman was originally published in the magazine Cavalier in 1973. The story followed a psychiatrist who listens to the case of a patient who claims to be attacked by a ghostly presence. While the doctor dismissed the claim, he eventually became a target of the creature himself. The short story was also adapted into a feature film in 2005.
The official synopsis of the upcoming movie reads, “Still reeling from the tragic death of their mother, a teenage girl and her little sister find themselves plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it is too late.”
The Boogeyman Star Cast
The film stars Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher as the teenage girl Sadie Harper and Bird Box actress Vivien Lyra Blair as her little sister Sawyer Harper. Chris Messina stars as their father, Dr. Will Harper. The rest of the cast includes David Dastmalchian as Lester Billings, Marin Ireland as Rita Billings, Madison Hu, and LisaGay Hamilton.
The screenplay has been adapted by Black Swan writer Mark Heyman and A Quiet Place screenwriting pair Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Host fame Rob Savage has directed the film, with Scott Beck, Emily Morris, and Bryan Woods serving as executive producers. The film is produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen.
