Robin Roberts is finally going to walk down the aisle with her girlfriend of 18 years, Amber Laign. The wedding is set to take place in 2023. Roberts revealed this news on Good Morning America.
Roberts also revealed that she and Laign had spoken about getting married before but decided to put it off when Laign, who is the founder of Plant Juice Oils was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2021.
She was able to complete radiotherapy after facing complications. Roberts is also a cancer survivor.
Saying Yes To Marriage
It was during a discussion with author and motivational speaker Gabrielle Bernstein that Roberts opened up about marriage. Roberts was asked about her intentions for the new year and she said “I’m saying yes to marriage. We are getting married this year.”
She made this announcement after hesitating a bit as this was the first time that she was saying it out loud.
Later on, Roberts also shared the clip on her Instagram and captioned it “Saying YES to marriage in 2023 💍 Always a joy to chat with @gabbybernstein…she joined us LIVE with a manifestation challenge to realize your dreams in the new year. #marriage #manifestation #loveislove”.
Family and other loved ones sent in their congratulations through the comment section. One user commented “your expression was priceless!!! I’m so happy for you and Amber 🎉❤️🎉” while the other one wrote “come through!!!!! Congratulations.. I’ll be the flower girl!!!!”
Wedding Bells
The wedding bells are ringing for the two lovebirds. During Monday’s broadcast, Bernstein encouraged Roberts to build a “wedding vision board”. To this, the 62-year-old started fanning herself and joked about revealing the next chapter of her life, she said “I can’t believe I said that”.
The couple started dating secretly in 2005, it wasn’t until 2013 that Roberts decided to come out as gay. The two of them celebrated the big milestone of 15 years together in 2020. Laign shared a post on Instagram and recalled how they met on a blind date.
How Did They Meet?
Laign, who is a former massage therapist wrote “Having you by my side is a privilege as we continue to navigate this thing called life.”
She then went on to praise her better half by saying “You have the kindest heart and most beautiful spirit than anyone I know.”
The 48-year-old added, “You have often taught me to maintain my humility and to treat everyone with the utmost respect since you never know what they may be going through.”
Then she went on to conclude the sweet message with “Absolutely amazing, I tell you. I adore you a thousand times over.”
The news being out in public has made the wedding so much more real for the couple. They have not revealed any details about the wedding but they might be planning it. Seeing how Roberts shared the clip of her saying “yes” to marriage, fans are hopeful that they will get other glimpses of behind the scenes as well.
