Will there be a second season of Kate Winslet’s ‘Mare of Easttown’?
While making an appearance on the December 16 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kate talked about the HBO’s drama series Mare of Easttown with Josh Horowitz and went on to reveal she is not sure whether there will be a season 2 or not.
The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actress told the host of the show, “I just don’t know what we’ll do. All I can say is no decision has been made. Honestly, it really hasn’t.”
Kate further added that the question now travels to how Mare’s story will continue in the second season after the policewoman uncovered a murder involving the family of her best friend Lori (played by Julianne Nicholson) in season one.
At the end of the day, the series Mare of Easttown bagged a total of four Emmys including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Kate Winslet. She added, “It’s a tricky one, being honest about… Oh god, here we go. This is going to get quoted and re-quoted.”
The Titanic star explained, “How would that evolve? Those are questions none of us can answer right now. The question is, do you quit while you’re ahead? Do you hold your head high and say, ‘Look at what we did, I’m so proud of that,’ and just walk away? Or do we go for it again?”
Playing the role of Mare took a toll on Kate Winslet’s health
Yes, you read that right. During a new interview with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kate Winslet disclosed that playing the character of Mare took a toll on her health.
The mom of three continued, “It was a lot for me to play that character. I’m not going to lie. Coming out the other side was frighteningly hard. It made me realize, ‘Oh my god, if I go to work now, it really hurts,’ and I have to look after myself. I have a family. I can’t just do that.”
What did Brad Ingelsby, the creator of the series have to say about season 2 of ‘Mare of Easttown’?
Mare of Easttown was originally designed to be a limited series. In the past, the Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby stated that season 2 isn’t out of the cards.
In a June 2021 interview with TV Line, Brad said, “If we can crack a story that is as great [as season one] and that would do justice to the characters and carry on the story in a way that was organic and yet surprising, I would love to do it. I just don’t know what the story is. That’s the issue right now.”
