EastEnders star Melanie died on March 29, 2022, after undergoing radiotherapy treatment. She is survived by her husband Simon and three kids. She got diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2019. In an interview with The Irish News at the time, she said, ‘I got the all clear, I’m cancer free, which is great, so now it’s all about recovery.’
But later on, she was diagnosed with brain tumor and she kept updating her fans about her cancer battle online. Post her second diagnosis, she said, ‘I was only given the all clear from cancer 18 months ago and it’s a cruel blow to think that I will now be starting into some kind of treatment again and that this time it will be long term and a permanent fixture of my life.’
When did Pullen come into the limelight?
Melanie was born on July 2, 1975, in Bray County Wicklow, Ireland. She studied drama at Trinity College, Dublin. Soon after graduating in July of 1997, she was cast in her most notable role as Mary Flaherty in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. She essayed the character of the long-lost relative of Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard) in the soap opera.
Then, Pullen bid adieu to the BBC show EastEnders in the year 1999. During a media interaction, she stated that she went through panic attacks and depression after leaving the show as she struggled to cope with the instant name and fame that she got after appearing in the high-profile show.
