Shakira Posts Cryptic Message After Ex Gerard Piqué Makes Relationship with New Girlfriend Instagram Official

Shakira seems to be throwing shade at her ex Gerard Piqué. A day after the former FC Barcelona player made his relationship with girlfriend Clara Chia Marti Instagram official, Shakira has shared a cryptic message on social media.

The pop star and the footballer were in a relationship for 11 years before announcing their split in June 2022. The ex-couple also shares two sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7. Read on to know what the singer had to say in her new post.

Shakira Shares Cryptic Message on Instagram After Piqué Goes Public with New Girlfriend

On January 26, the Hips Don’t Lie singer took to Instagram to post a video of herself singing and dancing to one of her songs. She captioned the post: “Las mujeres ya no lloran las mujeres bailan merengue!” which translates to “Women don’t cry anymore, women dance merengue!”

The post comes a day after Gerard Piqué, 35, shared a cozy selfie with his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti, 23, making his relationship official. Just a few days back, Shakira had released a new single, which appeared to take a dig at her ex-boyfriend.

The track, titled Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53, has the lyrics: “Good luck with my so-called replacement / I don’t even know what happened / You’re acting so weird, I don’t even recognize you / I’m worth two 22-year-olds / You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded in a Rolex for a Casio.”

The song went on to top the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, becoming Shakira’s first track to achieve the feat. A few days later, Piqué was seen driving a Twingo car in response to the diss track. The footballer had first dating romance rumors with Clara in August 2022 when they were seen getting romantic at a music festival in Catalonia, Spain.

Shakira and Piqué Announced Split in June Last Year

The two celebs confirmed their break up with a statement in June 2022. At the time, they stated, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

Shakira later opened up about the split in September and said, “I’ve remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation.”

“And so it’s been tough not only for me but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult. I think that those details are somehow too private to share, at least at this very moment—everything is so raw and new. I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family,” she added.

The singer further revealed, “I put my career in second gear, and I came to Spain, to support him so he could play football and win titles. And it was a sacrifice of love. Thanks to that, my kids were able to have a present mom, and I have this amazing bond with them that is unbreakable and that sustains us. You know, that is it. That’s all I can say.”
