Super Bowl 2023 Prize Money: How Much Will The Winning Earn?

It’s almost time for Super Bowl! The much-awaited championship game of the 2022 NFL season is all set to be played between the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs and the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Super Bowl LVII will see the two teams fighting it out to be the ultimate champion and win the coveted trophy. But the title would not be the only thing the players would be fighting for, as there also comes a huge cash prize with the winning trophy.

Considering that the game generates nearly $14 billion in revenue, the players of the winning team are expected to receive significant monetary rewards apart from the valuable rings. Interestingly, the losing team also does not go empty-handed and is paid handsomely. So without much ado, let’s have a look at the prize money for the 2023 Super Bowl.

Super Bowl 2023 Winning Prize Money

Each member of the winning team will reportedly get a $150,000 cash bonus, keeping up with the prize money of last year. The amount is set as per the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. The bonus is up $20,000 from 2020 when the players were paid $130,000 each on winning the trophy.

As for the losing team, each member will be getting $75,0000, which is half of what the champions will earn. The cash bonus is up $10,000 from 2020 when they were paid $65,000 each. Apart from the prize money, the rings that both the teams get are also said to be quite precious.

The Players Could be Paid Differently Based on their Eligibility

While some players will get the full cash bonus for their respective teams, others might get paid in half based on their eligibility. As per the official rules, the players who fulfil the following criteria will get a full bonus:

  • Those who are ‘on the team’s active or inactive list when the Super Bowl is played that have been on the roster for at least three previous games (regular season or playoffs).’
  • Those who are ‘not on the team’s active or inactive list ‘when the Super Bowl is played but have been on the roster for at least eight previous games (regular season or playoffs).’
  • ‘Veteran players who were injured during the regular season and removed from the team’s active or inactive list, provided they are still under contract when the Super Bowl is played.’

The following players will be getting a half-bonus:

  • Those who are ‘on the team’s active or inactive list when the Super Bowl is played that have been on the roster for less than three previous games (regular season or playoffs).’
  • Those who are ‘not on the team’s active or inactive list when the Super Bowl is played, but have been on the roster for at least three and not more than seven previous games (regular season or playoffs).’
  • ‘First-year players who were injured during the regular season and removed from the team’s active or inactive list, provided they are still under contract when the Super Bowl is played.’

Now let’s see if the Chiefs take the trophy and the prize money home or if the Eagles win the championship this year.
