 The Prince and the Showgirl actress had a total of 2 half-siblings. Let us tell you all an interesting fact about Marilyn’s life, she did not know that she had two half-siblings till she was 12 years old.

Norma Jeane Mortenson popularly known as Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, at Los Angeles County Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Marilyn did not know that her mom Gladys Pearl Baker had already given birth to 2 kids before she came into the world.

Back in the day, Marilyn’s mom Gladys tied the knot with a man named Jasper Newton Baker. At that time, she was only 15 years old, meanwhile, her husband Jasper was 24 years old.

Gladys and her then-husband Jasper welcomed two kids together. The names of their children are as follows: Robert Kermitt Baker and Berniece Baker Miracle. She filed for divorce from Jasper in the year 1923 and asked for sole custody of the kids. Soon afterward, he kidnapped the children and moved to Kentucky with them.

During her childhood days, Marilyn ended up in and out of the foster care system very often. She and her half-siblings Robert and Berniece did not have the best childhood.

Who was Berniece Baker Miracle?

Berniece Baker Miracle was the half-sister of the famous Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe. The full name of Berniece was Berniece Inez Gladys Miracle. She was born on July 30, 1919, in Venice, California, United States.

Berniece who was a writer by profession met her half-sister Marilyn in person for the first time in the year 1944. Unfortunately, her brother Robert passed away in his teens in 1933. It has been reported that Berniece’s brother Robert died at the young age of 15 due to kidney failure.

Berniece went to Pineville High School. She grew up with her father, stepmother, and brother who passed away when he was 15. She wasn’t even aware of whether her mother was alive.

Berniece was married to Paris Miracle

Berniece tied the knot with her husband Paris Miracle in the year 1938. The couple welcomed their first and only child, nearly 12 days before the 20th birthday of Miracle. Their first child, daughter Mona Rae Miracle joined them earthside on July 18, 1939.

During her pregnancy phase, Berniece got a letter from her mother Gladys. Through the letter, Gladys told Berniece that she had a sister named Norma Jeane and Marilyn got to know the same from a family friend.

At that point in time, a Monroe relative said, “It changed everything for Norma Jeane. She wanted to know Berniece, everything about her.” The two sisters met each other for the first time in 1944.

Throughout the course of her life, Berniece stayed away from the spotlight and worked many jobs such as a manufacturing inspector, bookkeeper, and costume designer. She passed away in Asheville, North Carolina, on May 25, 2014, at the age of 94.

Marilyn and her half-sister Berniece grew up pretty close. Berniece even penned down a memoir about her special bond with Marilyn. She titled the memoir My Sister Marilyn: A Memoir of Marilyn Monroe. As per various reports, Berniece was the one who decided on Monroe’s burial casket and dress for her funeral. In the memoir, Berniece gushed over her sister Marilyn.

In the memoir, Berniece talked about her half-sister Marilyn and wrote, “There was no chance of missing her. None of the passengers looked anything like her: tall, so pretty and fresh, and wearing what she had described, a cobalt wool suit and a hat with a heart shape dip in the brim.”

In an earlier interaction with ina.fr, Berniece spilled the beans on the untimely death of her half-sister Marilyn Monroe. At that time, she went on to talk about the fact that she believed that Marilyn did not commit suicide.

Miracle told the media outlet, “I don’t think she committed suicide. It could have been an accident because I had just talked to her a short time before. She told me what she had planned to do, she had just bought a new house and she was working on the curtains of the windows. She had so many things to look forward to and she was so happy.”

In the memoir, Berniece also talked about the mental health issues of their mother Gladys and she revealed how that led to the troubled childhood of her and her siblings. She wrote, “We share the same mother, who early in our lives was diagnosed as mentally ill. We grew up feeling abandoned and, though both of us were told we were pretty and talented, we still needed courage and strength. We got that from each other.”

  1. So happy to hear Marilyn Monroe had a Wonderful Step Sister Berniece who loved and supported Marilyn having the same Mother with Mental Illness. I’m sure these two Step Daughter’s had it hard growing up discovering they found each other in 1944. God Bless these Beautiful Women what they went through. Marilyn Monroe’s Life was so Heartbreaking and Painful what she Endured went Through her entire Life. She deserved Better!! What a Stunning Beautiful Girl and Woman she was. Outstanding and I think she really was a Very Sweet Loving Caring Person that just wanted to be Loved Accepted have a good Marriage and Family Children.

I was Impressed seeing her Listed Names of the 400 Books she had Collected and Read in her Home. Very Intelligent Famous Books by great Author’s.
