Grand theft auto 5, or popularly known as GTA 5 is the most popular game of the GTA franchise. Rockstar has kept on adding new modes in the games since its inception, but with the advancement of next-gen gaming consoles, there isn’t any news about the sixth entry, i.e. GTA 6. GTA 5 is a horse of the long run, and it’s here to stay for a long time.
Cross-platform compatibility is among the major aspect in which Rockstar is lacking behind. Now, with games like Minecraft and Rocket League introducing cross-platform support, it will be interesting to know when Rockstar will introduce this feature to its audience. Here’s everything known about the GTA 5 cross-platform compatibility.
Is GTA 5 Cross-Platform?
We will be direct, no, GTA 5 is not cross-platform. Rockstar hasn’t introduced this feature to its huge audience of GTA 5 yet. Even after 8 years of its release, you can only play GTA 5 with your friend who is having the same system as you. The same goes with GTA online too. Even games like Fall Guys come with the feature of crossplay, but as per reports available, crossplay won’t come to GTA 5 in the future.
Developed by Mike Daily and David Jones, GTA 5 is an adventure and mission-based game that has no competition. Even after eight years since its release, its popularity doesn’t seem to be stopping. With the new update, GTA 5 has also introduced the feature of multiplayer and playing the game online.
However, GTA 5 crossplay is possible but only in few cases. I know it’s quite confusing, so let’s first clear your confusion. It means that a person with a Playstation 4 and Xbox One can play GTA 5 with the person playing the game on PC. However, both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One guys can’t play with each other.
Bad News For Cross-Save And Cross-Progression
Cross-Progression is one of the most interesting aspects of GTA online. When GTA 5 was made available to play on PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, gamers were only given a very certain amount of cross-progression features. Rockstar gave the option to PS3 and Xbox 360 players to transfer their GTA Online character to the latest PS4 and Xbox One or even to the PC version of the game. However, players were only able to transfer the data for “one time”, and the support of transferring data ended in 2017.
Now Rockstar is making GTA 5 compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X, but still, they haven’t announced any kind of transfer program. We will most probably see the same thing that happened in 2014, i.e. a one-time transfer program that might be available for few years.
With some of the neck-to-neck GTA 5 competitors, like Activision Call of duty: Warzone, making Cross-Save, and crossplay possible in their game. It will be interesting to know how GTA 5 manages to tackle this situation, with no hope of introducing cross-play in the game, as of now. On a positive note, GTA 5 is continuing to break records, even without the feature of crossplay.
