Pharrell Williams is officially the next designer of Louis Vuitton’s menswear. The latest move made by the luxury brand will surely shake the landscape of menswear and now a bunch of new celebrity fashion designers have been roped in by Louis Vuitton’s parent company LVMH.
Prior to Williams, Virgil Abloh was the creative director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear. Unfortunately, the brilliant fashion designer passed away in November 2021 at the age of 41. Pharrell Williams named Louis Vuitton’s new menswear creative director
The luxury brand shared the piece of exciting news on the social media platform Instagram by posting a monochromatic picture of the American singer, rapper, fashion designer, and record producer Pharrell Williams.
The statement read, “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell Williams as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.”
It further read, “Pharrell Williams is a visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion – establishing himself as a cultural global icon over the past twenty years. The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship.”
In the statement issued on Instagram, Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO referred to Pharrell’s appointment as a homecoming. Mr. Beccari said, “I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new men’s artistic director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton toward a new and very exciting chapter.”
Pharrell Williams is known for collaborating with luxury brands
Yeah, you read that right. In the past, Pharrell has collaborated with many fashion brands. In the year 2004, he partnered with then-Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs to launch a line of sunglasses that were re-issued by Abloh in 2018.
In addition to this, the Cash In Cash Out singer has also joined hands with Chanel and Moncler, for splashy collaborations. The musician also has a long-term partnership with Adidas Originals.
