‘Blue Bloods’ Renewed for Season 14 on CBS after Cast Agreed for Salary Cuts

Blue Bloods will be returning to CBS with its 14th season this year. The police procedural drama has been renewed by the network for the 2023-24 season. The Tom Selleck starrer has now become the second-longest-running current scripted series on CBS, after NCIS, which is also renewed for its 21st season.

The news of Blue Bloods’ renewal comes a few weeks after it was reported that the show could be axed as CBS is cutting down its budget. The producers and the star cast then had to agree to a pay cut to keep the series going.

Blue Bloods Renewed for Season 14 on CBS

The show was earlier absent from CBS’ list of drama series renewals, which was released last month. At the time, it was reported that the producers were negotiating with the network to continue the show, while CBS pushed for heavy budget cuts, including 25% for actors and another above-the-line talent.

Last week, it was reported that the cast had agreed to salary reductions to help the ‘hundreds of crew and other support personnel whose livelihood depends’ on the show. The series was officially renewed on March 29, with Amy Reichenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, releasing a statement.

“Blue Bloods has dominated Friday nights since its premiere and remained an important anchor for CBS’ winning lineup. Viewers continue to embrace the Reagan’s, their law enforcement family, and the series’ dramatic storytelling. We can’t wait to pull a chair up to the Reagan family dinner table for another fantastic season,” Reichenbach said.

The Show is Among the Top 5 Scripted Series on CBS

Ever since its premiere in 2010, Blue Bloods has consistently performed well for CBS. The show is still among the five most-watched shows on the network. The procedural drama is the no. 1 most-watched primetime program on Fridays. It currently ranked number 3 among broadcast dramas with 9.54 million viewers.

The show also remains in the top 10 shows on Paramount+ and draws huge viewership on Netflix in international circuits. Being a massive success both on cable and streaming, the show has contributed significantly to CBS’ revenue over the years.

The Main Cast will Return in Season 14

The upcoming season will see the main cast reprising their roles, including Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan, Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, Bridget Moynahan as ADA Erin Reagan, Will Estes as Officer/Sergeant Jamie Reagan, and Len Cariou as Commissioner (ret.) Henry Reagan.

The synopsis for the series reads, “Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood.”

“He runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry, during his stint as Chief. A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son, Danny, a seasoned detective, family man and Iraq War vet who solves cases with his partner, Detective Maria Baez.”
