The world’s largest automobile manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation has overtaken luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz to gain the top spot. The brand value of the Japanese auto major Toyota for 2022 is 59.47 billion USD compared to the 58.07 billion dollar record in the previous year.

In spite of supply chain disruption caused because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Toyota has managed to show impressive growth this year. Most of the automakers across the world faced manufacturing difficulties because of lockdown imposed by government authorities and a shortage of manpower.

Toyota registered impressive growth in volume especially in China because of pent-up demand and gradual recovery in the overall economy.

2. Mercedes Benz: $58.2 Billion

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz slipped to the second spot this year with a brand value of $58.2 Billion. Mercedes Benz has witnessed a sharp drop of almost $7 billion compared to its value of $65.04 billion in the previous year.

Mercedes is also at the forefront of numerous technological innovations which the company has undertaken throughout the many years of its production history.

Even though the main production facility of Mercedes Benz is located in Germany they have manufacturing plants all across the world. Mercedes Benz has 93 factories in 17 countries across 4 different continents.

3. Volkswagen: $47.02 Billion

Volkswagen has retained its third rank position this year as well with a brand value of USD 47.02 billion. Volkswagen’s brand value has increased by almost 2 billion dollars compared to last year. Volkswagen is known for its world-famous iconic model Beetle.

German motor vehicle manufacturer, Volkswagen which was founded in 1937 has 136 production plants across different parts of the globe.

Volkswagen which is referred to as VW makes the designs, manufactures, and distributes both passenger cars and commercial vehicles to more than 150 countries.

4. BMW: $40.44 Billion

BMW, abbreviated form of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, is a German car manufacturer. BMW is the fourth-largest car brand in the world. BMW was successful in retaining its position compared to last year, however, the company has witnessed a marginal fall of USD 0.04 billion in its value as of 2022.

BMW, the world’s leading premium manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles, was founded more than 100 years ago in 1916.

According to the company website, BMW group has 31 production and assembly facilities in 15 different countries across the world and a global sales network in 140 plus countries.

5. Tesla: $36.27 Billion

Tesla has jumped 1 slot to number fifth position this year with a valuation of USD 36.27 billion in 2022. Tesla witnessed around a 15% jump in its valuation compared to the previous year.

Tesla is an American automotive and energy company that is also the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer.  Tesla along with 27 other companies have formed ZETA (Zero Emission Transport Association (ZETA) in the year 2020 to move all internal combustion vehicles to electric.

High profile CEO Elon Musk is the face of the company and a major shareholder with a 22% stake in Tesla. In the year 2009, Tesla produced its debut car model, the Roadster. Tesla boasts to have 598 retail stores spread across different parts of the world.

6. Porsche: $34.32 Billion

Porsche, which is also a German brand owned by Volkswagen has slipped to sixth position this year. Porsche’s brand value in 2022 is $34.32 billion compared to $33.91 billion in 2021.

Porsche always had a close relationship with VW who came together in the year 1969 to make the VW-Porsche 914 and 914-6 which was a huge success.

The company has 7000 patents worldwide and 400 new patents are registered every year. The company has six manufacturing plants spread across different countries.

7. Honda: $31.36 Billion

Honda, the Japanese automobile manufacturer which makes motorcycles as well as power equipment is ranked at the seventh position in the list of the world’s top richest car brands. Honda witnessed a slight decrease in its valuation compared to the previous year from $33.10 billion in 2020 to $31.36 billion in 2021.

It was Honda which was the first Japanese company to launch a dedicated luxury brand – Acura in the year 1986. Honda has diversified in other business verticals aside from automobile and motorcycle businesses.

8. Ford: $22.67 Billion

Ford Motor Company, an American automobile major is at the eighth spot this year with a value of $22.67 billion for the current year compared to $18.51 billion in 2020.

Ford motors is one of the oldest automobile companies in the USA which was founded by Henry Ford in the year 1903. Ford sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford umbrella, and the dedicated brand “Lincoln luxury” is used for luxury cars.

Ford is the fifth-largest auto manufacturer and second-largest in the USA. Ford has 90 plants and facilities in different countries.

9. Volvo: $17.75 Billion

Volvo, a Swedish multinational manufacturing company is at the same eighth spot this year as well. Volvo saw its brand value increase marginally to $17.75 billion in 2021 compared to $16.91 billion in 2020.

Volvo Cars which were earlier owned by Ford Motors is now controlled by the Geely Holding Group, a Chinese multinational automotive company.

Volvo which was established more than 100 years ago in 1915 as a subsidiary of ball bearing manufacturer, SKF has factories in 18 countries as of today.

10. Audi: $17.18 billion

Audi, a German luxury automobile major is in tenth place in the list of the world’s topmost valuable car brands. Audi has seen a very slight increase in its valuation year on year from $16.97 billion in 2020 to $17.18 billion in 2021.

Audi AG, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, designs, engineers, manufactures in 19 locations across 12 countries and sells luxury vehicles in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Audi has seven manufacturing plants around the world out of which few are shared with other VW Group. Audi Group has the largest production sites in Germany – Ingolstadt, and Neckarsulm. The company has production facilities in Hungary, Belgium, and Mexico as well.

11. Nissan: $15.25 Billion

Nissan, a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer is in 11th position this year. The company sells its vehicles under three different brands viz… Nissan, Infiniti, and Datsun. Nissan has alliance with France’s automobile major Renault since 1999 which was later extended to Mitsubishi.

Nissan is the leading Japanese automobile brand in China, Russia, and Mexico. Nissan LEAF, its electric car brand is the world’s second-largest selling vehicle just behind Tesla Model 3.

12. Chevrolet: $14.55 Billion

Chevrolet is ranked at 12th position in our list of most valuable car brands with a valuation of $14.55 Billion. Chevrolet is commonly referred to as Chevy by its customers and industry members.

13. Hyundai: $14.29 Billion

Hyundai is the first automobile major from South Korea which made it to the list of the world’s top car brands this year. Hyundai’s plant in Ulsan, South Korea is the world’s largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility.

Ulsan facility has a total annual production capacity of 1.6 million units. Hyundai Motor Company was established in the year 1967. Hyundai’s first model car was ‘Cortina’ which was unveiled in the year 1968 in cooperation with Ford Motor Company.
