Russia Bans Facebook And Twitter: Users Can No Longer Access Them

We have learned another piece of news that will undoubtedly surprise many people. We already knew that Russia is on the verge of blocking Facebook’s access.

But it was later revealed that Facebook isn’t the only social media network that has been limited in the nation. However, Twitter has also been added to the ‘Block Social Media’ category.

Facebook’s parent company stated that it is attempting to re-access the service in the country. This knowledge was communicated to everyone by the Russian communication authorities.

Russia blocked Facebook’s Access

Russia has blocked Facebook access in its country. The reason for the blockade was revealed in an official announcement.

The regulator, Roskomnadzor, stated in an announcement that the decision was made because the social network reportedly violated a federal statute prohibiting breaching Russians ‘human rights by limiting its media organizations.

Nick Clegg, the Meta President of Global Affairs, did say something about the ban in Russia.

The president stated, ‘Soon millions of ordinary Russians will find themselves cut off from reliable information.’ As previously stated, the parent corporation is attempting to restore Facebook.

‘We will continue to do everything we can to restore our services,’ Nick added. Check out the official tweet below.

The Statement Made Regarding The Ban Of Facebook

Well, if you’re wondering about the official statement. We have it translated from Russian to English for you here. The note stated the reason for the country’s lack of Facebook access.

“On March 4, 2022, a decision was made to block access to the Facebook network (owned by Meta Platforms, Inc.) in the Russian Federation. Since October 2020, 26 cases of discrimination against Russian media and information resources by Facebook have been recorded.

In recent days, the social network has limited access to accounts: the Zvezda TV channel, the RIA Novosti news agency, Sputnik, Russia Today, the Lenta.ru, and Gazeta.ru information resources.

The above restrictions are prohibited by Federal Law No. 272-FZ ‘On Measures to Influence Persons Involved in Violations of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Russian Federation’, adopted, among other things, to prevent violations of the key principles of free dissemination of information and unhindered access of Russian users to Russian media on foreign Internet platforms.”

Russian users attempting to access their Facebook accounts are now experiencing difficulties as a result of the access issue. The statement reads, ‘This page isn’t available right now.’

Russia Blocked Twitter’s Access Too

As previously stated, Russia has also restricted Twitter’s access. After people complained about having trouble logging into their Facebook accounts.

Another thing that has come to light is that Twitter is also down. And it’s being covered by a slew of Russian media sources.

Twitter has been prohibited on Russian territory, according to Roskomnadzor (RKN).

Access to the information website twitter.com is limited across Russia in accordance with RKN’s program for monitoring bans of webpages and websites depending on a Prosecutor General’s Office request dated February 24.

Instagram is working perfectly fine at the time being. But the Russian users aren’t able to access Facebook & Twitter anymore.

Well, the social media platform is trying its best to restore its services. Let’s see what happens next. In the meantime, stay tuned with us for more updates.
